PUNE MEETING 2025, SPECIAL RACE DAY, SUNDAY, 24TH AUGUST, 2025.

 

(PENETROMETER: 4.7 (LONGCHAMP METHOD); GOING: GOOD TO YIELDING)

 

RACE DAY REPORTS

 

RAILS WERE PLACED 4 METRES WIDE FROM 2000 METRES TO 600 METRES, THEREAFTER 5 METRES WIDE UPTO THE WINNING POST.

 

RACE NO.1 (52) – THE SO PERFECT PLATE: (ABOUT) 1400 METRES – RUNNERS - 6

 

Soon after being stalled, ANANYA (App. Ritesh Gochhi, dr.4) was fractious, lashed out at the gate, thereafter was checked by the Club’s Sr. V.O. and was found to have a cut injury above the right hock and had multiple bruises on the medial right hock. As such, the filly was certified unfit to race, was permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary grounds before coming under the Starter’s order and has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O., before next accepting to Race. As such, Trainer B. Prithviraj has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the filly to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

HIGHGROUND (S. G. Prasad, dr.6) lost about two lengths at the start.

 

BALENO (Bhawani Singh, dr.7) jumped outwards and had to be steadied.

 

After the race, HIGHGROUND was trotted at the stables and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.2 (53) – THE ACT IN TIME PLATE: (ABOUT) 1000 METRES – RUNNERS - 5

 

On arrival at the starting gates, on a request from Jockey Yash Narredu, the saddle used on GODDES OF DAWN was checked and was observed to have moved back, whilst adjusting the saddle the mare was fractious, thereby delaying the start. After the race, Jockey Yash Narredu reported that his saddle had slipped during the race. On questioning, Trainer Aman Altaf Hussain stated that whilst he had taken all precautions while saddling, he had used the breast girth as also a non slip pad and added that the mare has high withers which could be the reason for the saddle to have slipped, the same was noted.

 

WESTERN STAR (App. Aditya Waydande, dr.1) was fractious in the stall and jumped out awkwardly outwards and had to be steadied. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the Colt to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race

 

WESTERN STAR (App. Aditya Waydande) was observed to have shifted out under pressure in the straight. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, GODDES OF DAWN was trotted and found to be sound.

 

The Equine Hospital reported the following:

 

GODDES OF DAWN had left eye injury (sore).

 

WESTERN STAR had left eye injury (sore).

 

RACE NO.3 (54) – THE CAPITULATE PLATE: (ABOUT) 2000 METRES – RUNNERS - 5

 

EATON SQUARE (Yash Narredu, dr.4) planted in the stall and did not take any practical part in the race. In view of the same and a similar behavior of the gelding in his last start, Trainer M. Narredu has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding in two Mock Races to the satisfaction of the Starter, before next accepting to race.

 

KIMIKO (Antony Raj S., dr.2) lost about two lengths at the start.

 

TREAT (Neeraj Rawal) was observed to have been inclined outwards in the straight. Trainer Imtiaz A. Sait has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, Jockey Vivek G. (SUPERSTAR) reported that his mount hung-in in the straight, despite his efforts. Trainer P. Shroff has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, SUPERSTAR was checked at the behest of the Stipendiary Stewards, and no abnormality was found.

 

After the race, KIMIKO was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.4 (55) – THE PUNE TIMES MIRROR TROPHY: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS - 12

 

RIPTIDE (A. Praskash, dr.4) lost about a length at the start.

 

Approaching the 1000 metres, AMERICAN EAGLE (S. Mosin) was inclined outwards and had to be steadied, thereafter approaching the 800 metres AMERICAN EAGLE shifted in and went across WINGS OF FURY (P. Trevor) who had to be steadied, further passing the 500 metres AMERICAN EAGLE leaned inwards thereby tightening and inconveniencing CONJURER (Antony Raj S.) and AZALEA (Vivek G.). After the race on questioning Jockey S. Mosin stated that his mount was running green and in view of the filly’s behavior Trainer Shazaan Shah has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

CONJURER (Antony Raj S.) was observed to have maintained an erratic course in the straight and in the final stages of the race thereby tightening and inconveniencing ALL FOR LOVE (Yash Narredu) along the rails. After the race on questioning, Jockey Antony Raj S. stated that his mount was running green. View of the filly’s behavior, Trainer B. Prithviraj has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

Passing the 600 metres, RIPTIDE (A. Prakash) shifted in thereby bumping and tightening DANCING CLOUD (K. Nazil) along the rails on more than one occasion. In view of the erratic behavior of the gelding, Trainer Imtiaz A. Sait has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, Jockey A. Sandesh (ALGONQUIN) reported that his mount hung-in in the straight, despite his efforts, Trainer Dallas Todywalla has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, Jockey Nirmal Jodha (MERCHANT OF VENICE) reported that his saddle slipped in the final stages of the race. This being the first instance of faulty saddling during the current Pune Meeting 2025, Trainer Nirad Karanjawala has been fined Rs.2,000/- for his lapse.

 

After the race, ALGONQUIN, WINGS OF FURY & AMERICAN EAGLE were trotted and found to be sound.

 

After the race, ALL FOR LOVE was observed to have an injury on its right hind pastern.

 

After the race, CONJURER was trotted and found to be sound but was observed to have an injury on its right hind bulb of heel and left hind pastern.

 

The Equine Hospital reported that AZALEA had a right eye injury (sore).

 

RACE NO.5 (56) – THE NANA RAGHUNATH SALVER: (ABOUT) 1600 METRES – RUNNERS - 12

 

STAR ROMANCE (S. G. Prasad, dr.1) lost about four lengths at the start. Trainer Sangramsinh N. Joshi has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

At the start, DUESENBERG (App. Kirtish Bhagat, dr.2) jumped outwards onto GIANT GOLD (App. Aditya Waydande, dr.3) who in turn shifted out thereby tightening and inconveniencing DADDY’S BLESSING (N. S. Parmar, dr.4).

 

At the start, LOOKING LIKE A WOW (App. Ramswarup, dr.12) jumped and veered out, thereafter  shifted in thereby cutting across GUNSMOKE (Yash Narredu, dr.9) and  went onto LUCA (P. Trevor, dr.7) causing both horses to be steadied. After questioning and not being satisfied, App Ramswarup has been fined Rs.2,000/-.

 

At the start, HAGIBIS (R. Shelar, dr.6) jumped outwards and went across LUCA (P. Trevor, dr.7) causing the latter to be checked. Jockey R. Shelar has been cautioned.

 

Soon after the start, DADDY’S BLESSING (N. S. Parmar) stopped galloping thereby taking no practical part in the race. In view of the mare’s behavior, Trainer Subhag Singh has been asked to show his charge in a Mock Race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards, before next accepting to race.  

 

Passing the 1200 metres, DON JULIO (A. Sandesh) shifted in thereby starting a chain reaction due to which FLOYD (T. S. Jodha) and DUESENBERG (App. Kirtish Bhagat) were tightened for room and had to be checked. After questioning and not being satisfied, Jockey A. Sandesh has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

Passing the 800 metres, YOURE GORGEOUS (V. R. Jagadeesh) dropped back and ran detached from the field. Trainer B. Prithviraj has been asked to ensure that his charge puts up a reasonable performance in the future.

 

In the final stages of the race, DUESENBERG (App. Kirtish Bhagat) shifted in and went across KINGS GAMBIT (Vivek G.). App. Kirtish Bhagat has been cautioned.

 

After the race, Jockey P. Trevor (LUCA) reported that his mount hung-in in the straight. Trainer J. E. Mckeown has been asked to take remedial measures, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, KINGS GAMBIT, LUCA, STAR ROMANCE & FLOYD were trotted and found to be sound.

 

After the race, at the behest of the Stipendiary Stewards, endoscopy was performed on KINGS GAMBIT at the saddling enclosure and no abnormality was found.

 

After the race, DON JULIO was observed to have an injury on its left hind coronet.

 

After the race, YOURE GORGEOUS was observed to have a gum injury.

 

The Equine Hospital reported that DUESENBERG had a right eye injury (sore).

 

RACE NO.6 (57) – THE DR. S. R. CAPTAIN SALVER: (ABOUT) 1600 METRES – RUNNERS - 9

 

EMPEROR RODERIC (App. Aditya Waydande, dr.4) lost its footing at the start.

 

At the start, ULTIMO (R. Ajinkya, dr.6)  jumped outwards brushing the gates at the same time FORTUNATE SON (Prashant P. Dhebe, dr.9) leaned in thereby tightening and inconveniencing SINGER SARGENT (C. Umesh, dr.8) and PRIDE’S PRINCE (Antony Raj S., dr.7) drawn between them.

 

Approaching the 1400 metres, DESTROYER (S. J. Sunil) shifted out and went across SINGER SARGENT (C. Umesh) causing the latter to be checked. After questioning, Jockey S. J. Sunil has been fined Rs.2,000/-.

 

Passing the 900 metres, CHAGALL (App. S. Siddharth) shifted in thereby bumping and tightening SINGER SARGENT (C. Umesh) along the rails causing the latter to be checked. App. S. Siddharth has been cautioned.

 

Approaching the 400 metres, due to a tightly packed field SINGER SARGENT (C. Umesh) racing on the haunches of CHAGALL (App. S. Siddharth) had to check and change course.

 

From the 200 metres, ALPINE STAR (App. Avinash Paswan) shifted out under pressure and carried CHAGALL (App. S. Siddharth) outwards. App. Avinash Paswan has been cautioned.

 

After the race, App. Aditya Waydande (EMPEROR RODERIC) reported that his mount was inclined outwards in the straight, despite his efforts.  Trainer Shazaan Shah has been asked to take remedial measure, before next accepting to race.  

 

After the race, DESTROYER was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. and was found to be sore by right fore. As such the horse has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, PRIDE’S PRINCE & EMPEROR RODERIC were trotted and found to be sound.

 

After the race, ULTIMO was observed to have lost its left hind shoe.

 

The Equine Hospital reported that CHAGALL had right eye injury (sore).

 

RACE NO.7 (58) – THE SPARK OF GOLD PLATE: (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS - 14

 

REMY RED (S. Mosin, dr.6) took a fly Jump at the start.

 

After the race, Jockey K. Pranil (ABSOLUTE GORGEOUS) reported loss of whip passing the 100 metres. This being his first instance during the current Pune Meeting 2025, no action has been initiated.

 

After the race, ZENDAYA was trotted and found to be sound but was observed to have an injury on its left hind fetlock.

 

After the race, MILA was trotted and found to be sound.

 

The Equine Hospital reported that ZENDAYA had a left eye injury (sore).

The urine and blood samples of the winner of the 1st, 3rd, 5th & 6th race, viz. BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, SUPERSTAR, GUNSMOKE & CHAGALL and the special samples of KINGS GAMBIT (5th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substances.

ADDITIONAL REPORTS:

 

RE: RACE NO.40 - THE MAYOR’S TROPHY: RUN ON 15TH AUGUST 2024.

 

It was observed that ILLUSIONIST (S. J. Sunil) was sporting Tongue Strap in the paddock for which prior permission was not obtained, the same was removed. As such, Trainer M. Narredu has been fined Rs.1,000/- for his lapse.

RE: APPEAL BY MR. RAVI SHEKHAWAT AGAINST THE DECISION OF THE STEWARDS OF THE CLUB (I) TO DENY HIS APPLICATION TO BE REGISTERED AS AN ASSISTANT TO TRAINER JAMES E. MCKEOWN AND (II) TO TREAT HIM AS A WARNED OFF/DISQUALIFIED PERSON FOR A PERIOD OF 5 YEARS - ENQUIRY INTO THE FORGED DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED BY MR. PAPPURAM TO WORK AS A "PERMISSION BOY":

 

In connection with the captioned subject matter, the Board of Appeal at their meeting held on Thursday, 21st August 2025, considered appeal dated 7th August 2025 from Mr. Ravi Shekhawat, all documents and papers that were submitted including his grounds of appeal, heard the submissions made by him and his spokesman, Mr. Haider Soomar.

 

The Board of Appeal having deliberated on the matter at length, decided to reject his appeal and forfeit his deposit. Accordingly, the decision of the Stewards of the Club conveyed to him vide letter dated 4th August 2025 from the Chief Stipendiary Steward of the Club, stands. In view of the stay granted to him, his punishment would now come into force with effect from 22nd August 2025.

RE: MOCK RACE HELD ON 24TH AUGUST 2025:

 

After being stalled, DISCIPLINED (App. Ramswarup, dr.1) reared up in the stalls on two occasions and put his front leg in the adjoining stall. Trainer Himmat Singh has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding in a mock race to the satisfaction of the Starter, before next accepting to race.

 

At the request of the Stipendiary Stewards, STARSEED was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. at the stables was trotted and found to be sound but was observed with an injury on right hind pastern.
