MUMBAI MEETING 2022/23, SIXTEENTH DAY, SUNDAY 12TH MARCH 2023

RACE DAY REPORTS

 

RAILS WERE PLACED 4 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES (MILE CHUTE) LEADING TO 5 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES, 7 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES, 9 METRES  AWAY AT 800 METRES AND THEREAFTER 10 METRES AWAY UPTO THE WINNING POST.

 

FOR THE RACES STARTING FROM THE BACK STRETCH RAILS WERE PLACED 3 METERS FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1800 METRES TO 1400 METRES, 5 METRES AWAY AT 1200 METRES AND 7 METERS AWAY AT 1000 METERS.

 

On a request from Trainer M. K. Jadhav, permission was granted to Trainer A. M. Jadhav to saddle his charge DECACORN in the 5th race, at his own (Trainer M. K. Jadhav’s) risk and responsibility.

RACE NO.1 (137) THE BYRAM N. JEEJEEBHOY TROPHY (ABOUT) 1600 METRES. - RUNNERS - 7

 

Passing the 1300 metres, FLYING SCOTSMAN (A. Sandesh) leaned inwards thereby tightening and inconveniencing OWN VOICE (R. Ajinkya). After the race on questioning, Jockey A. Sandesh stated that his mount leaned-in despite his efforts.

 

Passing the 200 metres, SOUZA (App. Kirtish Bhagat) leaned inwards under urgings thereby tightening EMPOWER (App.Mustakim Alam) along the rails causing the latter to check and change course.

 

After the race, Jockey Neeraj Rawal (FLAMING LAMBORGINI) reported that his mount was lugging in from the 800 metres. Trainer Imtiaz A Sait has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race.

 

RACE NO.2 (138) THE R. N. KANGA TROPHY (ABOUT) 1600 METRES - RUNNERS - 6

 

After the race, Sr. V.O. reported that KNIGHT TEMPLAR was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, Sr. V.O. reported that IN CONTENTION was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of four weeks. The mare has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

RACE NO.3 (139) THE JAYANT M. SHAH & CHAMPAK M. SHAH TROPHY (ABOUT) 1800 METRES  - RUNNERS -  9

 

Approaching the 1400 metres, ALPHA DOMINO (Neeraj Rawal) shifted in thereby tightening CHIEFTAIN (App. P. Shinde) causing the latter to be checked. Jockey Neeraj Rawal has been cautioned.

 

Approaching the 1200 metres, WHATSINANAME (C. Umesh) shied and carried ALPHA GENE (R. Shelar) outwards.

 

Passing the 700 metres, ALPHA DOMINO (Neeraj Rawal) shifted in thereby tightening and inconveniencing GALWAY BAY (N. S. Parmar) along the rails causing the latter to check and drop back. After questioning Jockey Neeraj Rawal and not being satisfied with the explanation, he has been fined Rs. 5,000/-.  

 

RACE NO.4 (140) THE INDIAN NAVY TROPHY (ABOUT) 1400 METRES – RUNNERS - 7

 

Passing the 250 metres, CAMPAIGN (A. Sandesh) leaned inwards thereby tightening and inconveniencing TREASURE GOLD (T. S. Jodha) causing the latter to be checked and drop back.

 

An enquiry has been initiated into the improved performance of RHYTHM OF NATURE (App. Mustakim Alam) and a report will be submitted shortly.

 

After the race, SHE IS ON FIRE was found to be sore by left fore. The mare has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, JETFIRE was observed to have cut injuries on left hind below hock.

 

RACE NO.5 (141) THE WORLD'S OLDEST BARBAR TROPHY (ABOUT) 1200 METRES – RUNNERS - 8

 

Approaching the 800 metres, SHE’S A TEASER (S. J. Sunil) shifted in and went across ENDURANCE (C. Umesh) causing the latter to be checked thereafter SHE’S A TEASER further shifted in thereby tightening and inconveniencing GIANT KING (Neeraj Rawal) causing him to check and change course as a result forcing ENDURANCE outwards. The Stipendiary Stewards will be looking into the same and a report will be submitted shortly.

 

Jockey S. J. Sunil (SHE’S A TEASER) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his 2nd offence during the current Mumbai Meeting 2022/23, he has been fined Rs.5,000/-.

 

After the race, Jockey A. Sandesh (AMEERAH) reported that his mount was running green in the straight.

 

After the race, Jockey C. Umesh (ENDURANCE) reported that his mount was running green in the straight.

 

It was observed during the race at about 600 metres, GLOCKCHEN (Bhawani Singh) stopped galloping and the Jockey dismounted. On examination the Sr. V.O. reported that the gelding was non-weight bearing and sore by left fore leg. As such, first aid treatment was given to the gelding and sent to the Equine Hospital in horse ambulance for further diagnosis.

 

After the race, SHOWMAN was found to be sore by left fore. The colt has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O., before next accepting to race.

 

RACE NO.6 (142) THE KUSUMBEN DHIRUBHAI SHAH TROPHY (ABOUT) 1000 METRES -  RUNNERS -  9

 

After the race, Sr. V.O. reported that MOON BELLE was observed to have broken a blood vessel (2nd time) and is not to race for the stipulated ban period of eight weeks. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, BLAZE CARSON was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.7 (143) THE SIR CHARLES FORBES TROPHY (ABOUT) 1200 METRES - RUNNERS – 11

 

After being stalled, FLASH FORCE (S. P. Ranjane, dr.7) reared up and flipped over in the stall due to which his rider got injured and was unable to ride, as such, the gelding was withdrawn before coming under the Starter order. In view of the above, Trainer H. J. Antia has been asked to show his charge in a mock race to the satisfaction of the Starter, before next accepting to race.

 

FORTUNE TELLER (Amyn Merchant, dr.9) was restless in the stall and not allowing its rider to settle. Trainer Faisal A. Abbas has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

NELSON RIVER (R. Ajinkya, dr.10) jumped and veered outwards and did not raise an effective gallop thereby losing considerable ground at the start. In view of the behavior of the gelding, Trainer Rehanullah Khan has been asked to show his charge in a mock race to the Satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards, before next accepting to race.

 

At the start, LIAM (App. P. Shinde, dr.5) jumped outwards onto HELA (Bhawani Singh, dr.6). 

 

Passing the 800 metres, FORTUNE TELLER (Amyn Merchant) leaned inwards onto DOWSABEL (App. N. K. Ashish) who had to be steadied. Jockey Amyn Merchant has been cautioned.

 

After the race, MY PRINCESS and FORTUNE TELLER were trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.8 (144) THE KUSUMBEN DHIRUBHAI SHAH TROPHY DIVISION II (ABOUT) 1000 METRES - RUNNERS – 9

 

An objection was lodged by App. P. Shinde, rider of LADY DI placed third by the Judge against Jockey S. Zervan rider of LORD MURPHY placed first by the Judge. The reason being, in the last 100 yards, winner had cut across him & taken his ground due to which he had to change course which cost him a certain race.

 

After reviewing the race from various angles and considering the submissions made by the concerned Jockeys as also Trainer S. K. Sunderji, in conjunction with the views of the Stipendiary Stewards and relying on their own judgment, the Stewards decided to over-rule the objection.

 

In this connection, the Stewards of the Club held Jockey S. Zervan guilty of careless riding on his mount LORD MURPHY and it was decided to fine him a sum of Rs.5,000/-, (careless riding) for not making sufficient efforts to keep his mount on an even keel.

 

After the race, LADY DI was trotted and found to be sound.

The urine samples of the winner of the 2nd & 3rd race, viz. FLYING VISIT & WILLY WONKAA, and the special sample of IN CONTENTION (2nd race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance.
