ADDITIONAL REPORT:

RE: ENQUIRY INTO RIDING OF JOCKEY J. CHINOY ON “GOLDEN NEIL” (DRAWN 1) IN RACE NO.83 – THE S. A. POONAWALLA MILLION (GRADE 3) – RUN ON SUNDAY, 18TH SEPTEMBER 2022:

Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey J. Chinoy were questioned on 17th October 2022 in the above connection.

Jockey J. Chinoy was informed that Trainer Narendra Lagad had reported immediately after the race that you had not followed your riding instruction i.e. considering that the gelding is a free running horse you were instructed to go to the front.

Jockey J. Chinoy having confirmed the same stated that he was drawn 1 and despite the horse not taking a smart jump he made all efforts and went to the front thereafter i.e. about 150 metres after the start he saw EMPEROR RODERIC coming from outside with his mouth open he felt that either he would cause him to check or if he continued to go along with him he would use his horse too much up the hill also considering that he was running an additional furlong he felt that he should wait and not fight with him. The trainer pointed out that on the contrary EMPEROR RODERIC had come on his outside and passed him only because he had slowed the pace in fact it is very apparent the rider of EMEROR RODERIC did not want to go to the front and was trying to settle him.

On being asked to explain Jockey J. Chenoy stated that he taken a call at that moment and had not done anything deliberately to disrupt the horse and added that he may have misjudged it at that point. Race no.51 run during the current Pune Meeting was viewed where the gelding had won in the hands of with same Jockey.

The trainer once again stated that since the jockey has ridden the horse before he knew it and based on his winning race they had planned and accordingly he was instructed to go to the front.

Having viewed the race and heard the submissions made by both trainer and jockey  the Stipendiary Stewards are of the view that Jockey J. Chenoy had all the opportunity to follow his riding instructions, which he failed to do hence reported to the Stewards of the Club for failing to follow his riding instructions. The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 20th November 2022 having viewed the race in question, considered note from Stipendiary Stewards and heard the submissions made by Trainer and Jockey, decided to fine Jockey J. Chinoy Rs.5,000/- for failing to follow his riding instructions and to caution him for future.

Mumbai: 21st November 2022.
