Beginners want to know more

Posted on - 23 Nov 2011

Horse racing is one such sport, if someone gets curious about it, he or she wants to know more and more.

The experience was no different at the inaugural batch of the "Classes for beginners", a novel new initiative undertaken by RWITC & media partner MiD DAY, which got off to an impressive start on Sunday, November 20.

Assuming newcomers would have many queries & questions, it was decided to limit the batch strength to only a dozen so that individual attention to each participant would be ensured. However, five more students arrived unannounced at the last moment, a couple of them from Pune & Hyderabad, so they were accommodated. The final composition of 17 included some absolute beginners, some who had visited once or twice, and some who had spent months or couple of years at the races, but felt they needed to learn afresh. Interestingly, among the curious newcomers was a banker, a lawyer & a businessman.

Prakash Gosavi, racing correspondent of MiD DAY, conducted the course with the help of photographs, audio visuals, diagrams & examples. Everyone was so involved and the discussion turned out to be so engaging, that the scheduled one-hour course had to be stretched to two hours.

The batches for the next two Sundays are already filled up, and booking is now on for December 11.
