RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPLAINT LODGED BY TRAINER ASAD SIDDIQUI AGAINST JOCKEY NEERAJ RAWAL FOR NOT PERSISTING WITH HIS MOUNT "BAKU" IN THE STRAIGHT IN RACE NO. 140 - THE D. P. C. KAPADIA TROPHY RUN ON 13th FEBRUARY, 2020:

Trainer Asad Siddiqui and Jockey Neeraj Rawal were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Asad Siddiqui stated that Jockey Neeraj Rawal knows the horse well as he has been working the gelding since September and that he had instructed him to sit 5th or 6th and to do his best in the straight. Jockey Neeraj Rawal confirmed the instructions and added that he was asked to give the gelding a clear run in the straight from the outside.

The race was viewed and Jockey Neeraj Rawal was asked to explain his riding through the race. Jockey Rawal stated that the gelding was a bit tardy at the start but after some urging it was travelling well, coming into the straight it tried to run out, but he corrected his mount and rode out. It was pointed out to Jockey Neeraj Rawal that when the gelding tried to go out, he only gave a couple of back hand cracks and stopped riding with over a furlong to go. While Jockey Rawal accepted his fault, he explained that he felt the gelding was not going anywhere. Jockey Neeraj Rawal was reminded that as per the Rules of Racing every Jockey is expected to ride out past the post and him having given up with over a furlong to go was unacceptable.

Having heard the submissions made by the Trainer and Jockey and having viewed the video recording of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Neeraj Rawal and decided to suspend his Jockey's licence for 2 Race Days w.e.f. 27th March, 2020 to 29th March, 2020 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work/mock race) for failing to persevere with his mount.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF "HI HO SILVER" IN RACE NO. 129 - THE FOREST FLAIR PLATE RUN ON 9th FEBRUARY, 2020:

Trainer Dallas Todywalla and Apprentice P. Vinod were questioned in the above connection. App. P. Vinod stated that he was instructed to sit 2nd, 3rd or 4th wherever he found his mount comfortable and not to travel wide coming around the bend. Trainer Dallas Todywalla confirmed the instructions and pointed out that the Apprentice has done exactly that, i.e. travelled wide at the bend and thereafter shifted in after coming into the straight. The race was viewed and App. Vinod was asked to explain his riding. App. Vinod stated that he found himself on the outside and after negotiating the bend, felt that the Trainer would be upset if he shifted out and therefore he chose to shift in. The Apprentice was informed that after having travelled wide around the bend, it made no sense for him to have shifted-in in the straight and should have rather ridden out from the outside.

Having heard the submissions made by the Trainer and Jockey and having viewed the video recording of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Apprentice P. Vinod and decided to suspend his Apprentice Jockey's licence for 2 Race Days w.e.f. 27th March, 2020 to 29th March, 2020 (both days inclusive) (permitted to ride work/mock race) for riding an injudicious race.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF "PALOMAR" IN RACE NO. 145 - THE BOMBAY GYMKHANA TROPHY RUN ON 16th FEBRUARY, 2020 (WINNER) VIS-À-VIS RACE NO. 127 - THE TATTERSALLS MILLION RUN ON 2nd FEBRUARY, 2020 (UNPLACED):

Trainer Altamaash A. Ahmed was questioned in the above connection. Trainer Ahmed stated that in the previous race, i.e. Race No. 127, he had instructed Jockey Y. S. Srinath to jump out, urge the gelding and take a good position and that is what he did. However, on hindsight, he felt that the gelding did not enjoy that and therefore in the subsequent race i.e. Race No. 145, he instructed Jockey N. S. Parmar to settle the gelding, which perhaps suited him. He added that PALOMAR is a very timid horse, he jumps level with the field but shies away after seeing other runners. Also, the previous race being run under lights may not have suited him.

On being asked whether he had fancied his charge in Race No. 145, Trainer Ahmed said that he wanted to see how the gelding runs and whether it is able to replicate what it did in its first outing this season. To a specific question, Trainer Altamaash A. Ahmed said that he changed his instructions for Race No.127 considering that it was a switch from 1200 metres to 1000 metres and bearing in mind that the gelding was drawn-13  he had asked Jockey Y. S. Srinath to give him a tap or two in the early part if needed. Further, he had sent the gelding quite a few times for morning gate practice after its first race in Mumbai and that Jockey Srinath had worked the gelding before Race No. 127 and was very happy with the gelding's condition.

Taking into account the submissions made by Trainer Altamaash A. Ahmed and after having gone through his log books and the betting trend in the race in question, the Stipendiary Stewards decided to keep a close watch on the future running of the gelding.
