ADDITIONAL REPORTS :

REENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ROYSTON ROCK” (AMYN MERCHANT) IN RACE NO.120 – THE STAR OF GIBRALTAR PLATE (DIV.II) RUN ON 28TH SEPTEMBER, 2018 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Mansoor Shah and Jockey Amyn Merchant in

the above connection. Trainer Mansoor Shah said that the Stipes had noted his instructions to the Jockey before the race which were to take a forward position, improve in the straight and do his best. Jockey Amyn Merchant said that  he was instructed to sit well up and coming into the straight to ride out and do  his best.

The video recording of Race No.120 was viewed and when questioned about his riding style, Jockey Amyn Merchant said that he was tapping the filly in order to get  her going. When again asked to explain his riding effort in the straight, Jockey Amyn Merchant said that he had done everything possible to win the race, he has pushed the horse till the end.

The video recording of Race No.105 where Jockey Amyn Merchant won on AURORA AUSTRALIS, was viewed.

When asked for his views on the Jockey’s riding in the straight, Trainer Mansoor Shah stated that the Jockey had followed the instructions and ridden out the horse.  He added that in the previous start in Race No.82, the mare had placed third, 3 lengths behind the winner. He said that ROYSTON ROCK was still a maiden and this was her best run where she had finished 2 lengths behind the winner. When asked about the future plans, he said that the horse is owned by him and he keeps racing him often to earn stake money, however, after this run he would give some gap and then race her again.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race in question as also Race No.105 where Jockey Amyn Merchant won on AURORA AUSTRALIS, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.

REENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “SYLVESTER” (KAVRAJ SINGH) (ODDS 90/100 - PLACED SECOND) AND “DAZZLE N DAZE (DASHRATH SINGH) (ODDS – 13/2 – WINNER) IN RACE NO.125 – THE SENTOSA COVE PLATE  RUN ON 29TH SEPTEMBER, 2018:

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha in the above connection. When asked to explain as to why he had fancied SYLVESTER more than DAZZLE N DAZE, Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha said that SYLVESTER is a younger horse and in his previous start over 1800 metres when ridden by Jockey S.A.Amit, the horse was in 13th position at the bend and he was finishing on. He added that SYLVESTER is a big horse and Jockey S.A.Amit found it a little tough to control him and after the race told him that the horse definitely needs more ground, hence he fancied  him more in this race as compared to DAZZLE N DAZE who is a 7-year-old. Also, being a progeny of SEDGEFIELD, he felt that SYLVESTER would get the trip of 2400 metres. However, as per his reading of the race, SYLVESTER did not stay the distance since he came with a challenge and then packed up. He said that SYLVESTER was travelling 600 metres extra for the first time and his instructions for both the horses were recorded by the Stipes before the race i.e. for DAZZLE N DAZE, he had instructed Jockey Dashrath Singh to go to the front whereas for SYLVESTER, he had instructed Jockey Kavraj Singh to sit in 3rd/4th/5th keep him covered, wait on him and then ride out.

The video recording of Race No.92 where SYLVESTER  finished 2nd, was viewed.

When questioned on the choice of Jockeys, Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha said that he felt that SYLVESTER required a little bit of hard riding and as such he used Jockey Kavraj Singh. On being asked as to why Jockey Kavraj Singh was not present for the enquiry on this day, he said that the boy had left for his village since his father is unwell.

Jockey Kavraj Singh was subsequently questioned on 12th October, 2018. He said that he was asked to sit 3rd/5th but not too far behind and to do his best. When asked to explain his ride, he said that he had followed the instructions and passing the 4 furlong he started improving his mount and thereafter ridden out the horse to the best of his ability and he had informed the trainer after the race that the horse does not stay. To a question, he said that he had worked this horse prior to the race. Jockey Kavraj Singh was told that in the future if he has to leave station for any reason, he must inform this office before leaving station.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race in question as also the previous start of SYLVESTER i.e. Race No.92, the Stipendiary Stewards have noted the explanation tendered and a close watch will be kept on the future running of the horse.

REENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “EXCELLENT GOLD” (A.SANDESH) IN RACE NO.129 – THE JAMSHED DALAL TROPHY - RUN ON 29TH SEPTEMBER, 2018 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey A.Sandesh in the above connection. When asked to explain the change in the running pattern of EXCELLENT GOLD, Trainer Narendra Lagad said that there is no change in the running pattern of the horse.

The video recording of Race No.95 run during the Mumbai Meeting 2017/18 (winning race) was viewed.

When asked about his instructions to Jockey A.Sandesh in Race No.129, Trainer Narendra Lagad said that Jockey A.Sandesh rode the horse in its previous start in Race No.45 and knows the horse well and he had told the Jockey to ride his own race and to do his best. He said that this horse has to be allowed to come on the bit, he has to be ridden a little off the pace and then come with a run. He said that in the race in question, he was aware that his own filly WILD FIRE would hit the front and the pace would be very fast and there was no point in chasing WILD FIRE, therefore he had asked Jockey A.Sandesh to judge and ride his own race. When asked for his observation, Trainer Narendra Lagad said that Jockey A.Sandesh kept pushing the horse from the word go but the horse was not comfortable. He said that if shown daylight too soon this horse gives up and last time out when Jockey A.Sandesh rode him in Race No.45, he came off the pace and ran third to PERFECT STAR, however, if the two races are compared, the previous race was a bit slower as compared to the race in question and hence the horse was more comfortable in that race. When asked about the future plan for this horse, Trainer Narendra Lagad said that he planned to race him next in a million race.

Jockey A.Sandesh said that EXCELLENT GOLD is not the quickest at jump out like the other horses. He said that he was told to ride his own race and since he felt that GAZINO was his main danger, he decided to sit behind GAZINO and followed him.

The video recording of Race No.129 was viewed.

Trainer Narendra Lagad said that after having viewed the race, he may run him over 1400 metres in a Class-I next time out and ask the Jockey to sit off the pace and ride out.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race in question as also the horse’s previous races, under the circumstances the enquiry has been noted and a close watch will be kept on the future running of this horse.

REENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “WILD FIRE” (APP.ANIKET KARANDE) IN RACE NO.129 – THE JAMSHED DALAL TROPHY (1200 METRES) RUN ON 29TH SEPTEMBER, 2018 WHICH THE FILLY WON AS COMPARED TO HER PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.83 – THE DINKOO N.CHENOY TROPHY (DASHRATH SINGH) (1000 METRES) RUN ON 7TH SEPTEMBER, 2018 WHERE SHE RAN UNPLACED

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Narendra Lagad in the above connection. Trainer Narendra Lagad was informed that the pattern of jumping out of this filly was a matter of concern as she has been performing in alternate races and she has to be more consistent. Trainer Narendra Lagad said that a lot of work has gone into this filly. He explained that in her first start during the current Pune Meeting when ridden by Jockey Dashrath Singh, the filly was definitely unsettled. Thereafter they put a blindfold on her in her next start and she jumped out well but then again in her third start, she has mastered the blindfold and had a poor start. Thereafter, in conjunction with the Starter, they realized that when the handler holds her she keeps throwing her head and with this Apprentice boy she has been jumping out well as they had advised this boy to jump out holding the neck strap but not the reins and during morning gate practice App.Aniket Karande was doing exactly what was told to him and considering the improvement this filly had shown in the hands of this apprentice, he declared him in Race No.129 and the filly jumped out smartly and he would continue putting the same boy in her future races.

Having heard the submissions made, viewing the video recording of the races concerned and keeping in mind the filly’s erratic jump outs, the trainer has been asked to take measures to ensure that the filly is more consistent or else she may be liable for sanctions as this pattern is a matter of concern.

REENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “GALLANT KNIGHT” (BHAWANI SINGH) IN RACE NO.129 – THE JAMSHED DALAL TROPHY - RUN ON 29TH SEPTEMBER, 2018 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Karthik Ganapathy and Jockey Bhawani Singh in the above connection. Tr.Karthik Ganapathy said that he had instructed the Jockey to sit in 4th/5th position, mid bunch and to do his best.

The video recording of Race No.129 was viewed. Trainer Karthik Ganapathy said that he had told the Jockey to sit behind as the horse does not have initial speed and in its previous start in Race No.84 Jockey A.Imran Khan had to chase and sit up whereby the horse stopped in the last part. He said that in the race in question, if the Jockey had gone chasing in the early part, the horse would have stopped like GAZINO did and it was only because the Jockey sat in the early part that the horse produced the burst of speed at the end. He said that he had not expected WILD FIRE to stay on till the end. To a specific question, Trainer Karthik Ganapathy said that he was following the first favourite EXCELLENT GOLD and had told the Jockey to sit behind that horse.

The video recording of the previous run of GALLANT KNIGHT i.e. Race No.84 was viewed and it was pointed out to Trainer Karthik Ganapathy that in this race Jockey A.Imran Khan sat further up as compared to the race in question. Trainer Karthik Ganapathy  said that in this race he had instructed Jockey Bhawani Singh to sit in mid bunch since he expected the pace to be fast. He said that he would not have beaten the winner, WILD FIRE, considering the timing that filly had clocked.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race in question as also the horse’s previous run i.e. Race No.84, under the circumstances the enquiry has been noted and a close watch will be kept on the future running of this horse.

REENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “GAZINO” (P.S.CHOUHAN) IN RACE NO.129 – THE JAMSHED DALAL TROPHY -  RUN ON 29TH SEPTEMBER, 2018 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that t hey had questioned Trainer Nosher Cama and Jockey P.S.Chouhan in the above connection. Trainer Nosher Cama said that he had instructed the Jockey to sit well up and do  his best in the straight. He felt that it was not a poor performance because even though the horse had finished sixth, he carried 5 ½ kg more this time and clocked a better timing compared to his previous start. He said that this was the fastest race of the current Pune Meeting and WILD FIRE clocked a faster timing that RUFFINA clocked in The Akkasaheb Maharaj Trophy (Gr.3) and they all got caught. He said that before the race they knew that WILD FIRE would hit the front but did not expect her to kick on since she has never placed in a 1200 meres race. He said that GAZINO was a bit keen, so Jockey P.S.Chouhan sat too far up but they were expecting WILD FIRE to stop as she went at a 5 furlong pace, which was a mistake since the filly kicked on. When asked as to what was the need for the Jockey to make his move at the 4 furlongs, Trainer Nosher Cama reiterated that GAZINO  is an extremely keen horse. At this stage, Jockey P.S.Chouhan stated that the way WILD FIRE was galloping in the race, he realized that she may not stop and hence he improved so as not to give her a break. He added that if he had let WILD FIRE to take a break, probably he would have been asked as to why he had allowed that filly to break away.

The video recording of Race No.129 was viewed and it was pointed out to the Trainer and Jockey that when GAZINO raced with RUFFINA in Race No.90, he came off the pace. Jockey P.S.Chouhan said that in Race No.90, GAZINO was ridden by Apprentice H.Zeeshan and did not get a chance to go, whereas in the race in question he did not want to go  but the horse was pulling and dragging him to the front. He said that he had not used his mount to sit there.

Trainer Nosher Cama said that GAZINO is a keen horse and the only way he could have done it was by sitting behind someone which the Jockey has done and when he brought him out, WILD FIRE further quickened and went away.   He said that on hindsight, in the future he would ask the Jockey to ride this horse under check as he has blown himself up in this race. Trainer Nosher Cama felt that they all went on the wrong premise that WILD FIRE would stop.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race, the explanation tendered has been noted and a close watch will be kept on the future running of this horse.
