ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “GANDALF” IN RACE NO. 256 – THE BEJAN BHARUCHA PLATE (DIV.II) - RUN ON 30th MARCH, 2018:

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 8th April, 2018 interviewed Tainer Asad Siddiqui and Jockey Amyn Merchant in the above connection.

Having heard the submissions made by Trainer Asad Siddiqui and Jockey Amyn Merchant, having viewed the video recording of the race and having deliberated the matter, the Stewards did not accept the explanation tendered by Jockey Amyn Merchant and held him guilty of unsatisfactory riding on his mount GANDALF in Race No.256. In that, he did not make sufficient efforts to sit in 4th/5th position as instructed. Thereafter, at the top of the straight there was sufficient room for him to make his move on the outside but he unnecessarily shifted in thus placing his horse at a disadvantage. Further, his riding efforts in the straight were found wanting as compared to his known riding ability. The Stewards also noted that there was a drift in the odds of the horse. They also considered his past record. Therefore, taking an over-all view, the Stewards of the Club decided to suspend his Jockey’s license for Four Race Days, i.e. with effect from 28th April, 2018 to 29th April, 2018.  Thereafter, should he apply for a Jockey’s license for the Season 2018/19, the same will be granted to him, however, his license shall stand suspended w.e.f. 20th July, 2018 to 26th July, 2018 (permitted to ride work/mock race).

Further, the Stewards were also not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Asad Siddiqui and held the view that the Jockey would have not ridden in this manner unless he had the Trainer’s tacit approval. Therefore, the Stewards decided to fine him a sum of Rs.25,000/- .
