RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “GENTILESSE” IN RACE NO.131 – THE DANCING GLANCES PLATE RUN ON 23RD SEPTEMBER, 2017:

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Sanjay Kolse and Jockey Neeraj Rawal in the above connection. Jockey Neeraj Rawal stated that he was instructed to keep the filly covered and upon turning for home, to be in a striking position. To a specific question, Jockey Rawal stated that he was not instructed to sit in any particular position. Trainer Kolse responded stating that he had asked the Jockey to sit well up preferably 2nd/3rd, sit under cover, and since she is a big striding filly, to give her plenty of galloping room.

When asked about his observations of the race, Trainer Kolse stated that he chose Jockey Neeraj Rawal as he had ridden the filly earlier. He felt that since the filly has good initial speed, the Jockey should have made an effort to sit further up in the field. Jockey Neeraj Rawal explained that at the start, he was interfered by the horse drawn on his inside, thereafter, the said horse veered in creating room for him on the inside and instead of using the filly in the early part, he chose to shift in and sit under cover. However, the horses that went to the front soon slowed down the pace and that did not suit the filly.

Taking into account the submissions made and after having viewed the race from all available angles and keeping in mind that Trainer Sanjay Kolse had expressed his dissatisfaction with the riding efforts of Jockey Neeraj Rawal, the matter was placed before the Stewards for consideration.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Sunday, 19th November, 2017 interviewed Trainer Sanjay Kolse and Jockey Neeraj Rawal in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of the race, decided that no action was called for in the matter.
