ADDITIONAL REPORTS:

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “UNTITLED” IN RACE NO 176 - THE AMATEUR RIDERS’ CLUB TROPHY (DIV.II) - RUN ON 19th FEBRUARY 2017 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer H. J. Antia in the above connection. The video recording of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer H. J. Antia said that he had instructed the Jockey to take a jump and get into a good position and to do his best. When asked about his observation of the race and whether the horse had raced better than he had expected, Trainer H. J. Antia said that UNTITLED has not shown any real form this season, however, he had expected him to run well and finish better than what he did in this race. He said that the horse was declared to race on 19th March, 2017 over 1600 metres and since Jockey Hanumant Singh was not able to do the weight, he has declared App. Parbat Singh.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race, the explanation tendered by Trainer H. J. Antia was noted and the enquiry has been kept open.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “LOGIC” IN RACE NO 198 - THE F.K.VAKIL TROPHY (DIV.II) - RUN ON 1st MARCH, 2017 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Vishal Gaikwad and Jockey J. Chinoy in the above connection. The video recording of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer Vishal Gaikwad said that in the previous race i.e. Race No.70 the horse had finished fifth and going by that run, he had expected the horse to run a good race this time and had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and sit wherever from the 3rd to 5th position and coming into the straight to ride his race and do his best. He said that LOGIC is a one paced horse who has his share of problems and overall he feels that the horse needs more ground as he lacks turn of foot because he was in a decent position but when the Jockey asked him for an effort, he did not improve and was just there. On being asked about the future plans for this horse, he said that he would not be running him again this season since he has not shown any improvement after this race and also the horse is on sale.

Jockey J. Chinoy said that he was drawn-1 and did not want to lose his position as he felt that BAY OF LOVE would go to the front, as such he had decided to sit up so as to avoid getting covered. He said that the horse was under pressure before the bend itself and when he asked the horse for an effort he did not improve.

Having heard Trainer Vishal Gaikwad and Jockey J. Chinoy, having viewed the video recording of the race and having scrutinized the Medication and Work Log Books, the explanation tendered by them was noted and the enquiry has been closed.

REENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ETERNAL SUNSHINE” IN RACE NO. 205 – THE PICASSO PLATE - RUN ON 9th MARCH, 2017:

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Rehanullah Khan and Jockey A. Sandesh in the above connection. Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that he had instructed the Jockey to take a good jump and try to keep the filly covered, not show her daylight and not to whip her excessively but rather tap her as she starts swishing her tail and to ride her out in the straight. When asked if Jockey A. Sandesh had any inputs to give before the race since he has ridden her on most occasions, Trainer Rehanullah Khan replied that he had asked the Jockey to keep the whip in the left hand as she has a tendency to run out, however, the Jockey insisted on keeping the whip in his right hand because in his opinion the filly tends to lean towards the direction she is whipped from.

When asked about his observations of the race, Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that according to him the filly ran a pathetic race and the same can be attributed to two factors; firstly, STREETJAMMER who was travelling on her outside, shifted in passing 1200 metres and slowed down the pace. At this point the filly was very keen and the Jockey had to fight her to keep her under cover. Secondly, upon passing 800 metres, the pace suddenly quickened and the filly did not know what to do as she needs at least half a furlong to get into stride and she did not get this chance in the race. He said that he intends on taking off the Blinkers before running her next as in his opinion it did not suit her.

To a specific question, Jockey A. Sandesh said that the filly did not seem to respond to the whip.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey has been noted and the enquiry was closed.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “VOLANTIS” IN RACE NO 214 - THE BEHRAM A.ENGINEER TROPHY - RUN ON 12TH MARCH, 2017 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer M. Narredu in the above connection. The video recording of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer M. Narredu said that in Race No.177 run over 1600 metres, the filly was shown day light early and she got beat, however, in the race prior to that i.e. Race No.127 the filly came from behind and won over 1600 metres. Keeping the above in mind, they decided to race her from behind and as such, instructed the Jockey to may be slightly miss the kick and tuck her behind and not to show her day light, thereafter passing the 5 furlongs to start improving and to do his best. When asked if the Jockey had sat too far behind and left the filly too much to do towards the end, Tr. M. Narredu said that they had expected the pace to be slow, however, the race was fast in the early part. He said that the filly had run a good race because the Jockey had saved her in the early part. He said that he was planning to take the Blinkers Off next time out.

Having heard Trainer M. Narredu and having viewed the video recording of the race, the explanation tendered by him was noted and the enquiry was closed.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “LILAC TIME” IN RACE NO 215 - THE INDIAN NAVY TROPHY (DIV.II) - RUN ON 12TH MARCH 2017 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey N. B. Kuldeep in the above connection. The video recording of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer Narendra Lagad said that he had noticed from the filly’s previous three starts that she was a nervous sort of a filly, hence he had told the Jockey to be careful at the gates. He said that LILAC TIME had come to his charge from Trainer C. D. Katrak and this was her second run under his charge and considering her fractious behavior, he had taken permission to have her led to the gates. He said that in her first run under his charge i.e. Race No.180 she was ridden by App. Raghuveer Singh and she ran all over the place, hence he decided to use a Tongue Strap on her this time. He said that in the race in question, he had instructed Jockey N. B. Kuldeep to jump out and be careful as the filly takes a few strides to get into rhythm, hence not to rush her or push her initially, wait for her to come into strides and then ride her. He said that the Jockey rode as instructed, he waited for her to get into strides and then rode her all out and even tried to finish on board. He added that the filly was a Bleeder when she was in charge of Tr. C. D. Katrak  but that problem has now been sorted out.

Jockey N. B. Kuldeep confirmed the instructions and added that he had followed the instructions and did his best.

The video of the race was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey N. B. Kuldeep that his body language after coming out of the stall was that of restrain and that is why the filly may have been fighting for her head.

Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards were not entirely satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey N. B. Kuldeep. However, considering the start of the filly in the previous race, no action was initiated against him beyond severely reprimanding him and asking him to be more alert at the gates.
