ADDITIONAL REPORTS :

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “MISS SAIGON ” (R. AJINKYA, DRAWN-4) IN RACE NO 160 - THE LITTLE HEARTS MILLION (1400 METRES) - RUN ON 12th FEBRUARY 2017 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Vishal Gaikwad and Jockey R. Ajinkya in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Tr. Vishal Gaikwad said that he had instructed the Jockey to take a smart jump and sit in 4th/5th/6th position, at the 4 furlongs to see where the horses are and be with them and coming into the straight to get into the filly and thereafter to pull out the whip and ride out vigorously. When asked for his observation of the race, Trainer Vishal Gaikwad said that Jockey R. Ajinkya could have moved out passing the 3 furlongs when Jockey Santosh G (SAWGRASS) came alongside. To another query, he said that Jockey R. Ajinkya had ridden for him earlier during the Pune Meeting and he wanted to claim allowance in this race, hence he declared him.

Jockey R. Ajinkya confirmed the instructions. The video of the race was played and Jockey R. Ajinkya pointed out that passing 800 metres he was positioned nicely. Thereafter, passing 600 metres, he started to make his move, however, Jockey Santosh G. (SAWGRASS) was next to him and he was constantly on the look out for an opening. Further, coming into the straight, FLAG FLYING (App. N. Nadeem) was in front and if he had tried to shift out at that stage, he may have clipped, hence he waited for an opening. Further, he was instructed by the trainer not to break the filly’s stride as she takes time to get going, hence he had avoided breaking her stride.  Also, CARBONARA was racing on his outside.

Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video of the race, regular as well as the back view, the Stipendiary Stewards were of the view that Jockey R. Ajinkya was hampered for room in the straight and did not get a clear run. However, considering that there was negative information on this horse before the race and keeping in mind that filly was a favourite, the matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as deemed fit.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 19th February, 2017 considered the above report and having heard Trainer Vishal Gaikwad and Jockey R. Ajinkya and having viewed the video recording of the race, decided that no action was called for in the matter.
