MUMBAI MEETING 2016/17, TWENTYFIRST DAY, SUNDAY, 12th FEBRUARY, 2017.

RACE DAY REPORTS

RAILS WERE PLACED  3 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES (MILE CHUTE) TO 1200 METRES, 5 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES, 7 METRES AWAY AT 800 METRES, 9 METRES AWAY AT 600 METRES AND THEREAFTER 10 METRES AWAY UP TO THE WINNING POST.  FOR THE RACES STARTING FROM THE BACK STRETCH, RAILS WERE PLACED 3 METRES AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL POINT FROM 1400 METRES LEADING TO 5 METRES AWAY AT 1000 METRES. 

 

RACE NO.1(157) – THE KOKU – KIKA TROPHY (DIV.I): (About) 1400 Metres – Runners - 12

 

After being stalled, ABU AL BUKHOOSH (A. J. Nilesh) played up and flipped over and got cast underneath the stall. The other horses were unloaded and the Starting Gate was moved and the gelding was taken out and withdrawn before coming under the Starter’s Order. In view of this behavior, Trainer Faisal A. Abbas has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race. The Sr. V.O. reported that ABU AL BUKHOOSH had sustained bruise injuries on the poll and above the right eye. The gelding was sent to the Saddling Enclosure for further management by the Equine Hospital Vets. The Trainer is required to obtain a fitness certificate for the gelding from the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

SIR DESMOND played up in the stall and put his left hind leg on the side bar which got stuck. The leg was relieved from the side bar and the gelding was taken out and found to have sustained bruise injury on the left hind leg, as such, SIR DESMOND was certified unfit to race and was withdrawn before coming under the Starter’s Order. In view of this behavior, Trainer S. K. Sunderji has been asked to give his charge more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race. Further, Trainer is required to obtain a fitness certificate for the gelding from the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

CELESTIAL LIGHT (C. S. Jodha) was reluctant to be stalled and GREY ONE (Vikram Jodha) jumped out slow, losing about 5 lengths at the start. Trainers Imtiaz A. Sait and Subhag Singh have been asked to give their respective charge more gate practice and show them to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

Trainer C. D. Katrak has been fined Rs.3,000/- for having declared Apprentice Jockey Arman Ali Jafri on his charge GREGORIAN CHANTS, while the Apprentice did not hold a valid license under the R.W.I.T.C. Ltd. Rules of Racing. He subsequently declared Jockey Amyn Merchant.

 

At the start, NOBLE CHIEFTAIN (J. E. Pereira, dr.11) jumped outwards on to DIWALI LIGHTS (Bhawani Singh, dr.12).

 

Soon after the start, VIKING (Dashrath Singh) shifted in and brushed the haunches of ARSENAL (App. H. Zeeshan).

 

Approaching 1200 metres, MAKINO (Neeraj Rawal) shifted in and went across VIKING (Dashrath Singh) who had to be steadied.

 

Passing 150 metres, Jockey Amyn Merchant (GREGORIAN CHANTS) was observed to have lost his whip. On questioning, Jockey Amyn Merchant said that he had lost his whip as it had come in contact with that of Bhawani Singh (DIWALI LIGHTS) who was racing abreast. As the same was borne out in the video recording, no action has been initiated. 

 

GREY ONE (Vikram Jodha) was observed to have raced detached from the field. Trainer Subhag Singh has been asked to ensure that his charge runs with the field next time out.

 

After the race, ARSENAL was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.2(158) – THE SONNY BRAR TROPHY: (About) 1600 Metres – Runners – 7                                            

 

KHAYYAM (J. Chinoy) jumped out throwing its head.

 

Jockey J. Chinoy (KHAYYAM) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his second offence, he has been fined Rs.5,000/-.

 

After the race, MEKONG DELTA and KHAYYAM were trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.3(159) – THE DELTIN ECLIPSE STAKES OF INDIA (GR.2): (About) 2000 Metres – Runners - 5

 

REMEMBER ME (App. S. A. Amit) jumped out slow, losing about 5 lengths at the start. Trainer Nirad Karanjawala has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

Passing 300 metres, B FIFTY TWO (P. Trevor) shifted out and had to be steadied.

 

After the race, REMEMBER ME was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, ALAINDAIR was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.4(160) – THE LITTLE HEARTS MILLION: (About) 1400 Metres – Runners - 13 

 

FEARLESS NADIA (Bhawani Singh) jumped out slow, losing about 2 lengths at the start.

 

At the start, BOUNTY QUEEN (App. S. A. Amit, dr. 3) jumped outwards on to MISS SAIGON (R. Ajinkya, dr. 4).

 

At the start, ROSELLA (C. S. Jodha, dr.12) jumped inwards on to FLAG FLYING (App. N. Nadeem dr.11).

 

Soon after the start, CARBONARA (A. Sandesh) shifted in and went on to SPARKLING EYES (Neeraj Rawal) who in turn shifted in on to ETERNALINSPIRATION (Dashrarth Singh). Jockey A. Sandesh has been cautioned.

 

Approaching 1200 metres, due to a tightly packed field, SAWGRASS (Santosh G.) shifted in thereby crowding the field on his inside, due to which MISS SAIGON (R. Ajinkya), BOUNTY QUEEN (App. S. A. Amit) and ELEGANT BEAUTY (Yash Narredu) were tightened and had to be checked.

 

Passing 200 metres, FLAG FLYING (App. N. Nadeem) shifted in on to MISS SAIGON (R. Ajinkya), who in turn shifted in on to LADISLAUS (P. Trevor) forcing the latter to be checked. App. N. Nadeem has been cautioned.

 

In the final stages of the race, SAWGRASS (Santosh G.) was inclined to shift inwards and at the same time Jockey R. Ajinkya (MISS SAIGON), in an effort to take a tight passage between SAWGRASS and PINK PANTHER (Suraj Narredu), shifted in and tightened  PINK PANTHER along the rails. After questioning, Jockey R. Ajinkya has been suspended w.e.f. from 1st March 2017 to 9th March 2017 (Both days inclusive) for careless riding (permitted to ride work/mock race).

 

Jockey A. Sandesh (CARBONARA) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his first offence, he has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

After the race, Jockey Neeraj Rawal (SPARKLING EYES) reported that the pace was slow in the initial stages of the race as such he had to hold back his mount to avoid over reaching the front runners.

 

An enquiry has been initiated into the running and riding of MISS SAIGON and a report will be submitted shortly.

 

The Sr. V.O. reported that BOUNTY QUEEN was examined at the stables in the morning on 13/02/2017 and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.5(161) – THE MID DAY TROPHY: (About) 1400 Metres – Runners - 12

 

Passing 1200 metres, DAFFODIL (Neeraj Rawal) shifted out on to ROCHESTER (P. Trevor) who had to be steadied.

 

Passing 800 metres, AFRICA (N. S. Parmar) was observed to have brushed the rails.

 

After the race, Jockey P. Trevor (ROCHESTER) reported that his mount hung in. Trainer S. K. Sunderji has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the colt.

 

An enquiry has been initiated into the running and riding of ROCHESTER and a report will be submitted shortly.

 

After the race, ROCHESTER was trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.6(162) – THE DR.S.C.JAIN SPRINTERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP (GR.2): (About) 1200 Metres – Runners - 9

At the start, CHAMPAGNE (Yash Narredu, dr. 1) was observed to have stumbled.

 

Passing 800 metres, DANCING PRANCES (A. Imran Khan) shifted out on to HOLY SMOKE (Suraj Narredu) thereby forcing him to shift further outwards. Jockey A. Imran Khan has been cautioned.

 

Jockey A. Imran Khan (DANCING PRANCES) has been fined Rs.2,000/- for having raised his hand as a Victory Sign before passing the Winning Post.

 

Jockey Y. S. Srinath (GOLD BAG) was observed to have used the whip in excess of the prescribed limit on his mount. This being his first offence, he has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

After the race, CONGRESSIONAL was trotted and found to be sound. CHAMPAGNE had lost its right fore shoe.

 

RACE NO.7(163) –THE DR.JAGJIT SINGH TRIBUTE SALVER: (About) 1200 Metres – Runners – 14

 

Trainer C. D. Katrak has been fined Rs.3,000/- for having declared Apprentice Jockey Arman Ali Jafri on his ward SILK BABY, while the Apprentice did not hold a valid license under the R.W.I.T.C. Ltd. Rules of Racing. He subsequently declared Jockey Neeraj Rawal

 

At the start, ADVANCE TO CONTACT (C. S. Jodha, dr.4) jumped inwards and at the same time ADELINE (Bhawani Singh, dr.3) jumped outwards and they made contact.

 

At the start, AME (J. Chinoy, dr.9) jumped inwards on to BROTHERSOFTHEWIND (P. S. Chouhan, dr.8).

 

Soon after the start, TRIPLE THREAT (App. M. Ayyar) shifted in and went across ORLA (R. Ajinkya) and BE BOLD (P. Trevor) whereby both the horses had to be steadied. App. M. Ayyar has been fined Rs.2,000/-.

 

Soon after the start, IRISH BAILEY (A. Sandesh) shifted in on to ZABROK (App. Vishal N. Bunde) who in turn shifted in thereby tightening AME (J. Chinoy) and forcing it inwards on to BROTHERSOFTHEWIND (P. S. Chouhan). Jockey A. Sandesh has been fined Rs.3,000/-.

 

Passing 900 metres, BE BOLD (P. Trevor) shifted in thereby tightening ADELINE (Bhawani Singh) along the rails. Jockey P. Trevor has been cautioned.

 

Passing 400 metres, BROTHERSOFTHEWIND (P. S. Chouhan) shifted out and carried AME (J. Chinoy) outwards and at the same time Jockey P. S. Chouhan (BROTHERSOFTHEWIND) was observed to have lost his whip. The Stipendiary Stewards are looking into this incident and will submit a report shortly.

 

Passing 300 metres, BE BOLD (P. Trevor) shifted out thereby making contact and carrying ADVANCE TO CONTACT (C. S. Jodha) outwards. Jockey P. Trevor has been cautioned.

 

Passing 100 metres, ZABROK (App. Vishal. N. Bunde) shifted in thereby tightening ADVANCE TO CONTACT (C. S. Jodha) who had to be steadied. Apprentice Vishal N. Bunde has been cautioned.

 

After the race, Jockey P. S. Chouhan (BROTHERSOFTHEWIND) reported that his mount had weakened passing the 350 metres and was striding awkwardly, as such he had steadied his mount.

 

After the race, BE BOLD, BROTHERSOFTHEWIND and SILK BABY (examined on 13/02/2017) were trotted and found to be sound.

 

RACE NO.8(164) – THE KOKU – KIKA TROPHY (DIV.II): (About) 1400 Metres – Runners – 12                                            

 

At the request of Trainer Faisal A. Abbas, ITS A DEAL was examined at 0940 hours on 12/02/2017 and was observed to be sore by the left fore leg. As such, the gelding was certified unfit to race and was withdrawn on Veterinary grounds. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

There was dual declaration in respect of Jockey P. Trevor in this race i.e. by Trainer Imtiaz A. Sait on RELENTLESS PURSUIT and by Tr. Subhag Singh on ROYAL ECLAIR. On questioning, Jockey P. Trevor informed that he had confirmed the ride to Tr. Subhag Singh. Trainer Imtiaz A. Sait was informed of the same and he declared Jockey Suraj Narredu. However, before the first race of the day, Jockey Suraj Narredu informed that on going through the Declarations he realized that he was declared to ride RELENTLESS PURSUIT in this race and that he had immediately informed Trainer Imtiaz A. Sait his inability to ride this horse due to prior commitments. As such, Trainer Imtiaz A. Sait was permitted to declare Jockey Neeraj Rawal. The Stipendiary Stewards will be looking further into the matter and a report will be submitted shortly.

 

At the request of Jockey P. Trevor, ROYAL ECLAIR was examined by the Club’s Sr. V.O. who certified the mare fit to race. However, Jockey P. Trevor was not comfortable with the soundness of the mare as he stated that the mare had stumbled 3 to 4 times on her way to the start. After consultation with the Chief Stipendiary Steward, ROYAL ECLAIR was withdrawn before coming under the Starter’s Order. Trainer Subhag Singh has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting her to race.

 

At the start, AEOLUS MAXIMUS (Dashrath Singh, dr.1) jumped outwards and went across BACKSTREET BAY (App. D. R. Shubham, dr.3) who was slow to begin.

 

Passing 600 metres, PASS THE GLORY (App. K. Nazil) shifted out and made contact with BACKSTREET BAY (App. D. R. Shubham) forcing him outwards. Apprentice K. Nazil has been cautioned.

 

Passing 300 metres, MASTER SERGEANT (Amyn Merchant) shifted out thereby forcing PASS THE GLORY (App. K. Nazil) outwards, due to which RELENTLESS PURSUIT (Neeraj Rawal) who was racing on its haunches, clipped the heels of the former and stumbled thereby dislodging the rider. The Stipendiary Stewards will be looking into this incident.

 

Passing 200 metres, BACKSTREET BAY (App. D. R. Shubham) shifted in thereby causing interference to MASTER SERGEANT (Amyn Merchant) and SLAM DUNK (Hanumant Singh). After questioning, Apprentice D. R. Shubham has been suspended for one Race Day i.e. 1st March, 2017 for careless riding (permitted to ride work/mock race).

 

After the race, ALEXIA, BACKSTREET BAY (examined on 13/02/2017) and MASTER SERGEANT (examined on 13/02/2017) were trotted and found to be sound.

The urine samples of the winner of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th race, viz. B FIFTY TWO, CARBONARA, WINDSOR FOREST, DANCING PRANCES, IRISH BAILEY and CHIZZLER, as also that of ALAINDAIR (3rd race) and GOLD BAG (6th race), were collected for detection of prohibited substance.

RACE NO.144 - THE KUNIGAL STUD BREEDERS' PRODUCE STAKES (GRADE 3) - RUN ON 4th FEBRUARY, 2017.

 

Trainer S. Narredu has been fined Rs.3,000/- for late declaration in respect of his charge TUTANKHAMUN in the above race.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE LOSS OF WHIP BY JOCKEY R. AJINKYA ON “BLACK JAGUAR” IN RACE NO.126 – THE PLEASURE HUNT PLATE (DIV.II)  - RUN ON 19th JANUARY, 2017 :

 

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that Jockey R. Ajinkya (BLACK JAGUAR) was observed to have lost his whip approaching the 400 metres,

 

The Stipendiary Stewards stated that having questioned Jockey R. Ajinkya and having viewed the blow up of the incident of whip fall, they were not certain whether the loss of whip was intentional or accidental and this being his  second offence during the current Mumbai Meeting, the matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as they deem fit.

 

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Sunday, 12th February, 2017 having considered the above report, decided to give Jockey R. Ajinkya the benefit of the doubt.

 

However, this being Jockey R. Ajinkya’s second offence, he was fined Rs.2,000/- by the Stipendiary Stewards.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE LOSS OF WHIP BY JOCKEY AKSHAY GAIKWAD ON “SUPER BOLT” IN RACE NO.126 – THE PLEASURE HUNT PLATE (DIV.II) - RUN ON 19th JANUARY, 2017 :

 

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that Jockey Akshay Gaikwad (SUPER BOLT) was observed to have lost his whip approaching the 300 metres, After the race, Trainer Mansoor Shah had expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the manner in which the Jockey had lost his whip.

 

Having questioned Jockey Akshay Gaikwad and having viewed the blow up of the incident of whip fall, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Akshay Gaikwad as the loss of the whip was at a crucial part of the race which could have a bearing on the end result. As such, the matter was reported to the Stewards for such action as they deem fit.

 

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Sunday, 12th February, 2017 considered the above report and having heard Trainer Mansoor Shah and Jockey Akshay Gaikwad and having viewed the video of Race No.126 as also the incident of the whip fall, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Akshay Gaikwad. However, keeping in mind that he had recently completed riding ten winners and was permitted the use of the whip in races, the Stewards decided to give him the benefit of grave doubt and cautioned him to be more careful in the future. Further, he was advised to practice the use of the whip under the guidance of the Riding Instructor. The Stewards were also not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Mansoor Shah and decided to caution him for changing his statement in the enquiry.

RE : REQUEST FROM TRAINER NAZAK CHENOY TO REMOVE THE 2400 METRES MOCK RACE BAN IMPOSED ON “LUCAS”:

 

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Sunday, 12th February, 2017 considered letter dated 11th February, 2017 from Trainer Nazak Chenoy on the captioned subject matter and in view of the assurance given by her that LUCAS will only be racing over shorter distances for the foreseeable future which would not involve him being required to gallop past the Track Entrance/Exit, they decided to remove the Mock Race ban imposed on the horse.

 

However, in future if Trainer Nazak Chenoy decides to race the horse in a race above 2000 metres, she would have to show the horse to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards in a Mock Race before accepting with the horse.

Vide office letter dated 10th February, 2017 Mr. Arif Yusuf Baig was again requested to appear before the Stewards of the Club on Sunday, 12th February, 2017, however, he failed to do so. As such, the Stewards of the Club have decided that the exclusion ban imposed on Mr. Arif Yusuf Baig shall continue until he appears before them.

Vide office letter dated 10th February, 2017 Mr. Deven Jhaveri was again requested to appear before the Stewards of the Club on Sunday, 12th February, 2017, however, he failed to do so. As such, the Stewards of the Club have decided that the exclusion ban imposed on Mr. Deven Jhaveri shall continue until he appears before them.
