RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE/IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF “FURIOSA” IN RACE NO.195 – THE RED DRAGON PLATE (DIV.I) RUN ON 21st OCTOBER, 2016 WHICH THE FILLY WON AS COMPARED TO HER PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.98 ON 04/09/2016 WHERE SHE WAS UNPLACED

Vide Office letter dated 26th October, 2016 Trainer Faisal A. Abbas was asked to give his reasons in writing as to why action should not be initiated against him in the captioned subject matter. Vide his letter dated 1st November, 2016, Trainer Faisal A. Abbas explained as under :

1.             FURIOSA raced after a gap of 47 days;

2.             In the previous race i.e. Race No.98 run on 4th September, 2016 the filly ran in Class-III over 1200 metres whereas she won on 21st October, 2016 in Class-IV over 1000 metres;

3.             In Race No.98, the filly was very fractious in the stall and her Starting Stall Certificate was revoked. He felt that the filly’s bad behavior and her temperament in the stalls where she got very excited, had definitely affected her performance.        Subsequently he gave the filly sufficient gate practice and she showed improvement in her behavior in Race No.195 and she was blind folded and backed in for the first time.

4.             When the filly won in Race No.195 there was a change of equipment i.e. she raced with Blinkers which suited her a lot and she ran a different race;

5.             There were no common horses.

Trainer Faisal A. Abbas was questioned on 3rd November, 2016 and informed that in the previous run, FURIOSA was at longer odds and in the race in question the filly won well backed thereby casting a doubt and hence this enquiry.

Trainer Faisal A. Abbas reiterated that the long gap of 47 days may have helped the filly. Also, the Blinkers had calmed the filly to a great extent and she had showed vast improvement in work.

Having viewed the video of both the races, the explanation tendered by Trainer Faisal A. Abbas was noted inspite of the betting trend keeping in mind the horse was a 3-year old and 47 days had passed and there was a change of equipment .

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE/IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF “UNDISPUTED”  IN RACE NO.204 – THE DEMOCRATICUS PLATE (DIV.II) RUN ON 22nd OCTOBER, 2016 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO HIS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.114 ON 11/09/2016 WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED :

Vide Office letter dated 26th October, 2016 Trainer S. K. Sunderji was asked to give his reasons in writing as to why action should not be initiated against him in the captioned subject matter. Vide his letter dated 29th October, 2016, Trainer S. K. Sunderji explained as under:

1.             UNDISPUTED raced thrice during the current Pune Meeting and was fancied on all three occasions;

2.             In Race No.114 over a distance of 1200 metres, the gelding was ridden by Jockey P. Trevor and finished 8th, however, he was only 6 lengths from the winner. After the race the Jockey informed him that the horse did not enjoy the kick back and advised him to race him over 1000 metres next time out.

3.             In Race No.114 the gelding raced with Pacifiers which may have not suited him;

4.             There was a gap of 41 days in between the two races and the distance of 1000 metres in Race No.204 suited the horse. Also, he ran without Pacifiers this time.

5.             In Rae No.204 the horse raced from 2nd position, hence there was no question of kick-back;

6.             There was no common horse.

Trainer S. K. Sunderji was questioned on 3rd November, 2016 and was informed that UNDISPUTED had won two races previously, both over 1000 metres, therefore, his reasoning that he had changed the distance from 1200 metres to 1000 metres on the advice of Jockey P. Trevor, does not hold good. However, considering that the horse had run after a gap of 41 days and also the horse was fancied in the previous run as well, no action was being initiated in the matter and his explanation was noted.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE/IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF “STAR ONE” IN RACE NO.205 – THE SHAMU CHAVAN TROPHY (DIV.I) RUN ON 22nd OCTOBER, 2016 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO HIS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.140 ON 24/09/2016 WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED

:

Vide Office letter dated 26th October, 2016 Trainer M. K. Jadhav was asked to give his reasons in writing as to why action should not be initiated against him in the captioned subject matter. Vide his letter dated 1st November, 2016, Trainer M. K. Jadhav stated that STAR ONE has always been a consistent performer since the time he came to his charge. He said that there was one common horse viz. POWER SHADOW. In Race No.140 POWER SHADOW won carrying 50.5 kg.  and ridden by App. S. A. Amit (3.5 kg allowance claimer) and STAR ONE finished 7th carrying 56 kg. with App. Vishal N. Bunde (5 kg allowance claimer – without whip), however, he was only 3 ½ lengths from the winner. Subsequently, in Race No.205 STAR ONE was handicapped at 60.5 kg. and POWER SHADOW at 58.5 kg. and going by the previous race form, both the horses had equal chance in this race. However, this time STAR ONE with Jockey A. Sandesh in the saddle beat POWER SHADOW who was ridden by Jockey S. Zervan, by 2 ¼ lengths and this improvement could be attributed to Jockey A. Sandesh’s riding capacity as compared to App. Vishal N. Bunde. He said that he had given similar instructions in both the races i.e. to hit the front or be in close 2nd/3rd position. However, in Race No.140 STAR ONE was bumped at the start and also interfered with at 600 metres due to which App. Vishal N. Bunde could not follow the instructions and both these interferences reflect in the Race Day Reports.

Trainer M. K. Jadhav was again interviewed on 3rd November, 2016 and asked to explain the poor performance of his charge STAR ONE in Race No.140. Trainer M. K. Jadhav said that he stood by his written submissions. He reiterated that in Race No.140 STAR ONE was bumped at the start after which the horse was boxed and the boy was not able to follow the instructions which were to hit the front or be in close 2nd/3rd position.

Having viewed the video of both the races in the presence of the Trainer, it was highlighted to him that there was a difference in pattern of running in Race No.140 where the horse was a favourite. However, keeping all circumstances in mind, he was only cautioned.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE/IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF “PADMAKOSA”  IN RACE NO.151 – THE D.N.ZODGE PLATE (DIV.I) RUN ON 8th OCTOBER, 2016 WHICH THE MARE WON AS COMPARED TO HER PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.132 ON 18/09/2016 WHERE SHE WAS UNPLACED :

Trainer Subhag Singh was questioned in the above connection. He stated that in Race No.132 PADMAKOSA was ridden by Jockey Bhawani Singh and finished 7th over 1200 metres, but he was only 8 ¾ lengths from the winner. Subsequently, the horse won in Race No.151 after a gap of 20 days over 1000 metres and there was no common horse. Also, the fancied runner, GENEROUS LADY, had jumped out tardily and its Jockey lost the whip, which worked in his favour and he was lucky to win the race.

Having viewed the video of both the races and scrutinizing the betting sheets, the explanation tendered by Trainer Subhag Singh was noted.

---------------------

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE/IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF “FLASHY WINGS” IN RACE NO.194 – THE OCTOBER HANDICAP,  RUN ON 21st OCTOBER, 2016 WHICH THE FILLY WON AS COMPARED TO HER PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.156 ON 08/10/2016 WHERE SHE WAS UNPLACED :

Vide Office letter dated 26th October, 2016 Trainer Karthik G. was asked to give his reasons in writing as to why action should not be initiated against him in the captioned subject matter. Vide his letter dated 29th October, 2016, Trainer Karthik G. explained that:-

1.             In Race No.156, FLASHY WINGS ran in open Class-IV whereas in Race No.194 the filly won in Class-IV which was restricted for 3-year-olds only.

2.             In Race No.194 the filly raced with a Pacifier due to the kick back which made a difference to her performance. This race was run on the old Monsoon Track whereas in Race No.156 run on 8th October, 2016 the false rails were placed 11               metres wide from the 600 metres to the winning post.

3.             There was no common horse.

4.             The style of running was consistent in both the races, she raced off the pace and came from behind.

5.             CARRALISA who finished 2nd in Race No.156 subsequently again placed second in Race No.177 and CAIELIN who finished 4th, two lengths ahead of FLASHY WINGS in Race No.156, again placed fourth in Race No.198, a race for 3-   year-old horses. The winner, ESPADA and PRISTINA who placed Third in Race No.156 did not run subsequently.

6.             In Race No.156, FLASHY WINGS carried 57.5 kg in Div.II of the Pune Racing Journalists Trophy and finished fifth, clocking 1 Min 12.504 seconds whereas CICITALIA who won Div.I,  carried 57 kg. and clocked 1 Min 12.521 seconds, in   effect FLASHY WINGS would have won in Div.I, therefore, there was no question of FLASHY WINGS having performed poorly in Race No.156.

Having viewed the video of both the races and scrutinizing the betting sheets, the explanation tendered by Trainer Karthik G. was noted. However, his attention was drawn to the Calendar Notification “Re: Improvement in performance of a horse in a short span of time” and he was cautioned to be more careful in the future.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR / BELOW EXPECTATION PERFORMANCE OF “ROCK IN RIO” IN RACE NO.199 – THE DEMOCRATICUS PLATE(DIV.I), RUN ON 22nd OCTOBER, 2016:

Vide Office letter dated 26th October, 2016 Trainer Narendra Lagad was asked to give his reasons in writing as to why action should not be initiated against him in the captioned subject matter. Vide his letter dated 28th October, 2016, Trainer Narendra Lagad explained that he had instructed the Jockey to sit well up in the first three, however, the horse missed getting a flying start and came out tardily, as such, he had to be pushed to gain position. Thereafter, nearing the bend the horse on the outside shifted in whereby his horse lost position and the Jockey had to switch course, which, in a 1000 metres race, is difficult for a 5 kg. apprentice. Also, the horse was sent for an X-Ray the next day which showed damage in the knee and the Club’s Vet injected both the knees with Hyruan and Vetlog injections.

Having viewed the video of the race and scrutinizing the Veterinary log book, the enquiry was closed.

----------------------

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR / BELOW EXPECTATION PERFORMANCE OF “VOLANTIS” IN RACE NO.193 – THE STAR SHINE PLATE, RUN ON 21st OCTOBER, 2016:

Vide Office letter dated 26th October, 2016 Trainer M. Narredu was asked to give his reasons in writing as to why action should not be initiated against him in the captioned subject matter. Vide his letter dated 3rd November, 2016, Trainer M. Narredu explained that VOLANTIS has raced five times, having placed on four occasions but was still a maiden. He said that two of the filly’s best runs during the current Pune Meeting were over 1800 metres and 2000 metres where she placed second on both occasions. He said that in the race in question which was over her ideal distance of 1800 metres, she was given a good ride by Jockey A. Sandesh who settled her very well and saved her as much as he could for the final stretch, however, turning for home when the Jockey asked her to quicken, she did not respond as expected. He felt that either the filly did not like the going on the Pune Track or she may not be genuine as expected.

Having viewed the video of the race, the explanation tendered by Trainer M. Narredu was noted and the enquiry was closed.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO ALLEGED BETTING BY TRAINEE APPRENTICE PRANIL KHARAD :

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Sunday, 20th November, 2016 interviewed Trainee Apprencie Pranil Kharad in reference to the captioned subject matter. At this meeting he admitted betting on the Tote and gave a written apology for the same and assured the Stewards that he will not commit a similar offence in the future.

The Stewards of the Club noted that all Rules and Regulations are explained to the new apprentice trainees before commencement of the training and did not accept his plea of ignorance and held him guilty of gross misconduct. However, keeping in mind that he had admitted his guilt and assured the Stewards that he will not commit a similar offence in the future, the Stewards took a lenient view and decided to suspend him from attending his training classes for a period of four months i.e. up to and inclusive of 20th March, 2017.  Further, he was cautioned that on a repetition of a similar offence, severe action will be initiated against him.
