RWITC to lease land to house surplus horses

Faced with a situation of atleast 100 surplus horses at the Pune season, the RWITC Committee has in principle agreed to lease land at Sopan Baug, near Empress Gardens, to house the overflow by building temporary stables.

This will be subject to the commercial terms being finally negotiated and obtaining the requisite approvals.

With stabling space for barely 1200 horses, the RWITC every year takes on hire additional stables at various areas in the vicinity of the race course. This year the problem was aggravated due to a much higher number of two year olds and general rise in the horse strength.

With new norms for “culling” horses and quotas across trainers/ owners/ two year olds expected to be put in place by next year, it is expected the lease would be only for Pune Seasons 2011 and 2012.
