Evening Racing To Make Debut At Mahalaxmi Racecourse Today
It is time for change in Indian Racing. The premier racing club in the country , the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC), is set for a giant leap by hosting racing under lights on Saturday when Evening Racing will unfold with three of the eight races to be held under floodlights from 7 pm.
The opening day of Evening Racing, sponsored by RWITC chairman Zavaray Poonawalla, will feature high end pop up restaurants, a food court, music and entertainment apart from top class racing action.
Last year, the club staged a successful trial under lights which assured that Evening Racing would be high on the agenda this year for the top brass of the RWITC. “We wanted to give a much-needed boost to the sport apart from providing an exciting evening venue for the fun loving people of Mumbai,“ Zavaray told TOI. A mock race conducted on Thursday evening got a positive response from trainers and jockeys. “The track lighting lux (lights level) here matches the best in the world,“ opined S Padmanabhan, the leading trainer from Bangalore. “It is much better than what we saw last year,“ felt ace jockey A Sandesh.
The opening day will see the staging of the Zavaray Poonawalla Evening Racing Triple Million, which will offer the winner of the race an imposing silver trophy worth a million rupees.
There is a lot to look forward to for the common racing enthusiast as well with the first 3000 entrants being provided biryani in the public enclosure! The RWITC has tied up with bookmyshow.com for making tickets easily available. The tickets are also available at the venue. On Evening Race days, mobile phone badges are provided at a spe cial price of Rs.535for members and guests. The seating arrangements have also been upgraded.
