Mock-race for sundown racing encourages RWITC

Gearing up for the historical sundown horse race at Mahalaxmi Race Course this weekend, the smooth conduct of the two mock races has literally given a leg-up to the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC).

The club didn't want any last minute hiccups and as such the two races were planned ahead of the weekend. Six horses participated in first race and the feedback provided by the jockeys actually brought relief to RWITC chairman KN Dhunjibhoy and committee member Ram Shroff, who were present on this occasion.

Visiting jockey Darren Williams told the club's administrators, “I think we can do with some more brightness otherwise the floodlights were perfect. The horses strode out freely and there should be no problem in having races under these floodlights.”

Jockey I Pasha, who also rode in the race, added, “There was no problem with the horses. They didn't shy away on seeing the shadows and my horse even made his run from the outer lane. “The track and lights were absolutely okay and I think night racing will be a success,” said Pasha emphatically.

Shroff was excited after the successful running and added: “We were worried about the safety of the horses and the jockeys but it's not an issue anymore. There were no glitches at all and now we are waiting for the historical day when RWITC will conduct sundown racing this weekend.”

Dhunjibhoy too was elated after the feedback from the jockeys.
“It was not fantastic but fantabulous. We are now geared up to race into the future,” he said.
