Once upon a time at the races
Mumbai Mirror

There have been several surprises at the RWITC elections this year, but Bollywood director Milan Luthria's nomination as member of the stewards' body that regulates horse-racing takes the cake.

Luthria will be one of the nine judges who will be responsible to ensure that the sport is conducted fairly. In short, he will review the performance of horses and jockeys on a day-to-day basis a task that assumes immense significance in these turbulent times.

But fret not. Your diarist is glad to report that Milan an amateur rider for years is regularly sighted at the racecourse both in Mumbai and Pune.

And he is married to Liane, whose great grandfather Sir HM Mehta shared a close association with Mumbai's turf club. In fact, Milan too owns a few horses in partnership with his in-laws.
