Radheyshyam Jhunjhunwala Million will be a grand race
By Bob Sawhny

Mumbai: Eight well bred thoroughbreds have accepted to run in the 1400M Radheyshyam Jhunjhunwala Million, a Terms Race for Indian Horses, 3 years old and over, which will be run here on Sunday, 21st December, 2014. This esteemed Million Race is the 6th race in a card of eight events and it is scheduled to be run at 4.00 P.M. Total Stakes of this race is Rupees One Million & the Winner will get Rs.6,00,000. In my opinion, the winner should emanate from the duo of either Mariinsky or Amelia, both trained by the master Trainer Pesi Shroff. The aforesaid duo are given below along with their racing career record, pedigree, good track-work and other relevant factors, if any and eventually, my final analysis.

MARIINSKY (Burden Of Proof – Sabre Dance) Trainer: Pesi Shroff

She is a very attractive and well bred filly who has had 17 outings in her career. Her Career Record is excellent and she has won 6 races, come 2nd on 4 occasions finished 3rd on 3 occasions and ran 4th-twice, which conspicuously shows that she is a very consistent performer. On 2/12/2012 she won her maiden race, in Mumbai-The 1200M HDFC- Ergo Trophy in a terrific manner by 3-1/2L and on 20/1/2013 Mariinsky clinched the Gool S. Poonawalla Million (Gr.3) by giving 4Kg to Starry Eyes and confidently, beating her by a neck .in an excellent time of 1:10.74s. She then ran on 24/2/2013 in The 1400M Poonawalla Breeders Multi-Million (Gr.1) and finished 3rd to Murioi. Subsequently, Mariinsky was taken down to the South and in the Bangalore Season 2013, she fared well and on 26/5/13, she ran a very good and close 2nd to Murioi in The 1400M Nanoli Stud Juvenile Million (Gr.2) and on 16/6/13 she finished a good close 3rd to stable mate and the classy filly Amelia in the 1600M Fillies Championship Stakes (Gr.1).

Then on 11/8/2013 in Pune, she won The 1400M F.D. Wadia Trophy (Gr.2) in a splendid manner by 2 3/4L. Thereafter, Mariinsky on 7/9/2013 superbly won the rich 1400M Calcutta Fillies Trial Stakes. Then, her highly superb victory was in Bangalore on 30/11/2013 where she won the Bangalore 1000 Guineas (Gr.2), as the favorite by a widening 3-1/2L and subsequently, on 15/12/2013 the splendid filly, Mariinsky won The Indian 1000 Guineas (Gr.1) with an air of authority, beating Circle of Life and Starry Eyes. Then, she ran on 22/12/2013 in the Indian 2000 Guineas (Gr.1) in which she ran a poor 3rd to Murioi and Alaindair. Then, Mariinsky’s  next endeavor was  on 9/2/2014 in The 1200M Dr S.C. Jain Sprinters’ Championship (Gr.2) in which she finished an excellent very close 2nd to Amelia despite her poor start and getting a somewhat, problematic run in the straight. Subsequently, Mariinsky raced in Hyderabad, but did not fare too well there and on 1/3/2014 she finished 4th to Nefyn in The Sprinters Cup (Gr.1) and on 8/3/2014 she ran an extremely poor race in The Major P. K. Mehra Memorial Super Mile, which was won by her stable-mate, the very classy filly, Amelia. Mariinsky’s last run was on 30/11/2014 in The 1600M A. C. Ardeshir Trophy (Gr.3) in which she carried 59Kg & finished 2nd, 3 Lengths behind her stable mate, the in-form filly Circle of Bliss 54.5Kg. Probably, Mariinsky could have finished a closer second if she was not somewhat held in along the rails, throughout the straight. As such, Mariinsky merits a following when she runs next time out over a middle-distance trip 1400 to 1600M.

Browsing over her pedigree, her Sire Burden of Proof (Fairy King-Belle Passe) won 12 races at 2 to 7 (6 to 8 furlongs) incl. Budweiser World Cup International Stakes (Gr.2) plus 3 good (Gr.3) races. On the Indian turf, Burden of Proof is faring well as a Sire and has sired and continues to sire innumerable good thoroughbreds such as Arabian Prince, Aboline, Fleeting Arrow, Full Speed, Fantabulous King, Siachen, Lindsay& more black-type performers. Her ‘Dam’ Sabre Dance is by Bold Russian out of Dancing Dissident by Everyday II and she won 3 good races at 2 to 4 (1100 to 2400M) including Castrol Calcutta Oaks (Gr.3). Hence, Mariinsky is a well-bred filly.

My Final Analysis: Mariinsky runs with a very good chance on 21/12/2014 in the 1400M Million Race because she has had a good run on 30/11/2014 which is bound to have stripped her much fitter and since she has worked well on 18/12 & 19/12 she is presently very fit and appears to be the one, who all will have to try and beat although her stable mate Amelia who has always beaten Mariinsky- could be a Live threat.

AMELIA (Multidimensional – Adamile) Trainer: P. Shroff

She is an attractive, highly versatile and well-bred filly whose brilliant performances are given hereafter. She has had 9 runs, won 6 races and has come second - once. Her maiden win over 1000M was in Mumbai on 10/3/2013 and she zoomed to her authoritative victory by a widening 5-1/2 L in a speedy time of 58.44s. Then, Amelia’s second win was in Bangalore on 16/6/2013 where she decisively won The 1600M Fillies Championship Stakes (Gr.1) beating her stable mate Mariinsky by 1-1/4L. Subsequently, she very easily and stylishly won The 1600M Deccan Bookmakers Fillies Championship Stakes (Gr.3) at Hyderabad on 25/8/2013. Thereafter, after a gap of about five months, Ameliaeasily won The 1200M Black Dog Trophy, a handicap race for HR 80 & Up, in Mumbai on 1/2/2014. Then, the in-form filly won two races in fairly quick succession and on 9/2/2014; Amelia beat stable-mate Mariinsky at level-weights to clinch The esteemed Dr. S.C. Jain Sprinters’ Championship (Gr.2) in Mumbai. Then, on 8/3/2014, Amelia significantly triumphed in The 1600M Maj. P. K. Mehra Memorial Super Mile (Gr.1) run at Hyderabad in which she easily beat her stable-mate Mariinsky. Then, Amelia has not run a race for over nine months and will now be running The 1400M Radheyshyam Jhunjhunwala Million on Sunday, December 21, 2014.

Pedigree wise, her Champion Sire ’Multidimensional’ needs no introduction because he has sired several Classic thoroughbreds, and many classy horses. And her dam ’Adamile’ was by the great sire Razeen out of Climbing High who did nothing significant but her dam’s Tail-Line was a fairly good one, as it goes down to the likes of Snowtop (IRE) from 14starts had 3 wins, 3 places with C.E of 22,941 Pounds and her Tail-Line also had Icing : 9 Starts: 4 wins, $ 18,037 1st: Argos Star Fillies' Mile Gr.3, 2ndAscot 1000 Guineas Trial S. Gr.3 (ENG)2nd hi weighted 2yo filly in Ireland. So, Amelia was a well-bred filly.

My Final Analysis: Amelia is an excellent versatile filly and even though she is running after a long gap of over nine months, her trainer Pesi Shroff has given her a lot of work-outs in December 2014, which is sure to see her now perform commendably in The 1400M Million race on 21/12/2014 although this time, her stable-mate Mariinsky could get the better of her.
