Only 3 accept to run in The Maharaja Of Morvi Trophy
By Bob Sawhny

Mumbai: The Maharaja Of Morvi Trophy, a somewhat preparatory race for the Indian Classic races, which had 16 good probable runners, has dwindled down to a mere three, who have consented to run, at the acceptance stage.

The 1400M Maharaja of Morvi Trophy, a terms race, for 3-year olds only, has been gifted to the Pesi Shroff-trained fillyMaisha (Footstepsinthesand -My Pension) as she literally has no opposition. The 1400M Maharaja of Morvi Trophy has Total Stakes of a lavish Rs.6,57,000/- and the winner gets an amount of Rs.3,98,390. This race is the 3rd race in a card of 8 events and is scheduled to be run at 2.15 P.M. All other races of this Day are dedicated to Charities of the Rotary Foundation, which is an extremely unique effort by the RWITC.

Maisha is a very attractive & well-conformed filly, who has had 7 starts and has won three races authoritatively and finished a good 2nd on four occasions, which shows that she is an adept and consistent performer. Maisha’s runs are worth examining (1) won on 24/11/2013 (Mumbai) over 1000M, being her Maiden Win and then (2) finished a very close 2nd, in her next outing to the classy colt- Be Safe on 29/12/2013 also in Mumbai in The 1200M Zoroastrian Multi-Million, possibly because, she had a very bad outer Draw 13.Then, (3) Maisha ran-18/1/2014 The 1200M Gool S. Poonawalla Million (Gr.3) but unluckily finished on very strongly, despite getting badly hampered in the race and came an excellent close 2nd to the superb 3yo gelding- Shivalik Storm. (4) Maisha’s brilliant win in Hyderabad was on 1/3/2014 Viz. won The 1200M Deccan Bookmakers Juvenile Million, a 3yo Terms race by a widening 3-1/2L. (5) Then on 25/5/2014 she ran a good 2nd to Be Safe in The 1400M Nanoli Stud Juvenile Million (Gr.2) (6) And On 15/6/14 Maisha in Bangalore domineeringly won The 1600M Fillies Championship Stakes (Gr.1) by a widening 3-1/2L beating good 3YO fillies like Godspeed, Tiger Tops, Culebra etc. And Maisha’s last run was on 12/10/2014 in Pune where she finished a good 2nd to Quasar in The 2000M Nanoli Stud Pune Derby (Gr.1).

Pondering over Maisha’s pedigree, her ‘Sire’ Footstepsinthesand from 3 starts had 3 wins. His excellent Career Earnings were of a lavish 226,451Pounds Because, At 2Yrs He won The 1400M Killavullen Stakes IRE-G3 and At 3Yrs He won the highly prestigious English Two Thousand Guineas (ENG-G1).Hence, from her ‘Sire’ Footstepsinthesand’s side, Maisha is not bred to stay- more than 1600M.

But from her dam’s side, her two half-sisters won about 12 races between themselves, Nine of which ranged from 2400 m. to 3000 m.  Plus, their Grandam was a dual Gr.3 winner in France & a full sister to Galiani, a winner of the 3000m Grand Prix de Paris, Gr.1. Therefore, it is very clear, that .Maisha from her dam’s side is endowed with very good stamina.

Maisha has an excellent career record as shown above along with her excellent pedigree. Plus, Maisha has been blazing the track in Mumbai and she will win The Maharaja of Morvi Trophy on November 23, 2014. And this victory, will appropriately serve as a good stepping stone to The Indian 1000 Guineas (Gr.1) on 14/12/2014 which Maisha should win.
