RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ICE COOL” IN RACE NO.114 – THE PERTIGALETE PLATE RUN ON THURSDAY, 3RD JANUARY, 2013:

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Sunday, 6th January, 2013 interviewed Trainer Dallas Todywalla and Jockey Suraj Narredu in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of the race, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Suraj Narredu. The Stewards held the view that a Jockey of his caliber,  ought to have judged the pace of the race much better and he should have looked behind to see how far ahead he was, instead of taking a very long lead. Further, this being a 2400 metres race and having taken a long lead, Jockey Suraj Narredu did not give the horse a breather at any part of the race but on the contrary picked him up from the 1000 metres and continued to ride him out as a result the horse was tired and fizzled out in the final stages of the race. Therefore, the Stewards held him guilty of not permitting his mount ICE COOL to run on its merits in the above race. The Stewards also noted that ICE COOL was a fancied runner and there was a drift in the odds on the horse. Taking an over all view and keeping in mind his recent clean record at this centre, the Stewards took a lenient view and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 24th January, 2013 till the end of the Mumbai Meeting 2012/13 (not permitted to ride work/mock race).
