ADDITIONAL REPORT/S :

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE AND DRIFT OF ODDS ON “EXCELLENT HEART” (DASHRATH SINGH) IN RACE NO.144 – THE JANARDHAN TROPHY (DIV.I) -  RUN ON 24TH SEPTEMBER, 2017

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Narendra Lagad and Jockey Dashrath Singh in the above connection. The video recording of the race was viewed and when questioned, Trainer Narendra Lagad stated that in the gelding’s first run in Mumbai he was strongly fancied by the connections, however, in that race the horse hit the front and stopped. Subsequent to that run they had the horse examined by the Club’s V.O. wherein it was found that he had a hair-line fracture on both the stifles and was also suffering from kissing spine and was operated for the same. He said that after shifting to Pune, the horse went a Mock Race wherein he hit the front and faded out and then in his first run during the current Pune Meeting 2017 in Race No.66 over 1400 metres, the horse ran poorly. Keeping this performance in mind, in the race in question he instructed Jockey Dashrath Singh to sit in 3rd/4th position, keep tapping him all the way and to do his best, which instructions the Jockey followed. To a specific question, he stated that the horse had no form to go by and the racing public may have seen his bad coat which could be the reason for the slight drift in odds. On being asked about the future plans, he stated that he would race the horse again only in Mumbai.

Jockey Dashrath Singh confirmed the instructions and added that despite his efforts the horse was not moving. To a specific question, he said that he does not use the whip unnecessarily and the horse barely managed to get the second place in spite of his best efforts.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of the race and going through the veterinary treatment of the horse (which is confirmed by the Vet), the Stipendiary Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by the Trainer. However, considering that the morning odds on this horse were 5/2, opened at race time at 4 to 1 and further drifted to 5/1 and also they were of the opinion that Jockey Dashrath Singh could have been more vigorous in his riding efforts, as such, the matter was placed before the Stewards for such action as they deem fit.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 14th October, 2017 considered the above report and having viewed the video recording of the race, decided that no action was called for in the matter.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE FIGHT THAT TOOK PLACE IN THE JOCKEYS ROOM ON 28th AUGUST, 2017 BETWEEN APPRENTICE VISHAL N. BUNDE AND TRAINEE APPRENTICE PRAKASH AKHADE:

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 14th October, 2017 interviewed App. Vishal N. Bunde and Trainer Apprentice Prakash Akhade in the above connection.

The Stewards of the Club questioned Apprentice Vishal N. Bunde and Trainee Apprentice Prakash Akhade and having heard the submissions made and having deliberated the matter, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Apprentice Vishal N. Bunde and held him guilty of gross misconduct on the premises of the race course. In that, he admitted before the Stewards that he hit Trainee Apprentice Prakash Akhade in the Jockeys’ Room on 28th August, 2017 and also incited his Cousin, Mr. Abhishek Gangadhar who also himself hit Trainee Apprentice Prakash Akhade and thereafter brought goons from outside to the Jockeys Room who again hit Trainee Apprentice Prakash Akhade. The Stewards held the view that if he had any grievances, he should have reported the matter to the Officials instead of taking law into his own hands. Therefore, the Stewards of the Club decided to suspend his Apprentice Jockey’s license with immediate effect i.e. from 15th October, 2017 till the end of the Mumbai Meeting 2017/18 (Not permitted to ride work/mock race).
