ADDITIONAL REPORTS :

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “GOLDEN WEAVER” (K.NAZIL) IN RACE NO.65 – THE DR.K.VASUDEVAN TROPHY  - RUN ON 25TH AUGUST, 2018 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Hosidar Daji in the above connection. He said that prior to Race No.65, he had raced the filly in Race No.24 over 1400 metres which she just about won and after that race the owner suggested that since all her siblings are long distance runners, to try and run her over a little longer distance the next time which he did and raced her over 1600 metres in Race No.65. He said that  the filly was in contention till the bend and may be just a little bit into the straight and then fizzled out and he felt that she did not get the 1600 metres trip. He said that subsequently he raced her in the lower Class  (i.e. Class IV) and over a shorter trip i.e. over 1200 metres in Race No.106 and she won. He reiterated that he felt that the filly does not get the mile trip. Also, she is very hard to train in the sense that she does not keep condition and he has to go easy on the training, may be that is why she could not get the 1600 metres trip. Further, it is very hard to settle the filly, hence in the 1600 metres race she was up there and fizzled out in the straight.

Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the races concerned, the explanation tendered by Trainer Hosidar Daji was noted.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF “LESREL” (AKSHAY) IN RACE NO.85 – THE RAMBUS PLATE (1200 METRES) RUN ON 7TH SEPTEMBER, 2018 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS TWO RUNS DURING THE CURRENT PUNE MEETING I.E. IN RACE NO.50 RUN ON 15TH AUGUST, 2018 (1200 METRES) WHERE HE HAD FINISHED THIRD AND IN RACE NO.59 RUN ON 24TH AUGUST, 2018 (1000 METRES) WHERE HE HAD FINISHED FOURTH :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Vishal Gaikwad in the above connection. He said that LESREL is a little low pastern horse and he needed a run when he ran the first time in Pune in Race No.50 in Class IV and thereafter he would have given his 100% in the next run in Race No.59  but there was a fall in the race and due to the interference, Jockey J.Chiny who rode  him that day travelled wide towards the Turf Club House thus losing about 6 to 7 lengths and finished 4th.  He said that after that run the  horse has improved for two reasons, viz. he has not given the horse pace work nor did he give him too many canters and secondly, he had changed the equipment i.e. he used a bit lifter Australian Nose band which probably the  horse liked. He said that he would also like to place on record that one hour before the race in question it rained and being a low pastern horse, it suited him.

The video recording of Race Nos.59 and Race No.85 was viewed. It was pointed out to Trainer Vishal Gaikad that in Race No.59 the fall had nothing to do with the running of his horse. Trainer Vishal Gaikwad said that Race No.59 was a Class-IV race and the winner clocked 58.698 seconds and his horse went wide and clocked 1 – 0.151 seconds whereas in Race No.85 his horse ran in Class-V and surprised him.

Thereafter, the video recording of Race No.50 was viewed.

Having considered the submissions made, scrutinizing the Work and Medication Log Books  and having viewed the video tape recording of the race in question as also his previous two races during the current Pune Meeting, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Vishal Gaikwad and fined him Rs.20,000/- for contravention of the Calendar Notification Re : Comparative Performance of Horses winning within a short span of time”.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ROYAL MEWS” (RAGHUVEER SINGH) IN RACE NO.86 – THE ISHPINGO PLATE (DIV.I) RUN ON 7TH SEPTEMBER, 2018 – TRAINER FAISAL A.ABBAS HAD COMPLAINED THAT HE WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE JOCKEY’S RIDING:

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Faisal A.Abas and Apprentice Raghuveer Singh in the above connection.

Trainer Faisal A.Abbas said that he had instructed the Jockey not to go wide after the jump out, sit in 5th/6th/7th position and try and get as close as possible to the inner rails at the bend to cut the circumference off, come into the straight and ride out.

App.Raghuveer Singh confirmed the instructions and added that he was drawn-11 and he did try to follow the instructions. He said that he rode the horse for the first time in Race No.86.

Trainer Faisal A.Abbas said that he had fancied the horse. When asked at what stage he took exception to the Jockey’s riding, Trainer Faisal A.Abbas said that the Jockey made a mistake at one or two places, however, he was not implying that he had stopped the horse, he only wished to bring it to the notice of the Stipes that round the bend when the winner was heading him, he checks the horse. Trainer Faisal A.Abbas felt that if the Jockey had held his position a bit more, he would have probably gone much closer to the winner.

The video recording of Race No.86 was viewed and Trainer Faisal A.Abbas was informed that from draw-11 to come in and sit along the rails was a big ask to do and in an effort to do so, App.Raghuveer Singh has lost position. Trainer Faisal A.Abbas was told that he should be more careful with his instructions in the future.

Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted for future reference.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RIDING OF JOCKEY ALTAF SAYYED ON “DEVOTED” IN RACE NO.92 – THE LAGO MEDIO PLATE - RUN ON 8TH SEPTEMBER, 2018 – TRAINER IVOR FERNANDES HAD LODGED A VERBAL COMPLAINT THAT JOCKEY ALTAF SAYYED HAD NOT FOLLOWED HIS INSTRUCTIONS :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that Jockey Altaf Sayyed was questioned in the presence of Trainer Ivor Fernandes, in the above connection. He said that he was instructed to be alert at the start, sit in 4th position and to ride out in the straight. He said that since nobody went to the front he was unable to follow the instructions as the horse was keen and he tried to settle the  horse but was unable to do so.

The video recording of Race No.92 was viewed and when asked to point out where he had made an effort to settle the horse so as to follow his instructions, Jockey Altaf Sayyed reiterated that the horse was keen.

Trainer Ivor Fernandes pointed out that Jockey Altaf Sayyed had ridden DEVOTED in its previous start in Race No.35 where he rode the horse in check.

The video recording of Race No.35 was viewed.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video recording of Race No.92 as also the horse’s previous run i.e. Race No.35, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Altaf Sayyed and suspended his Jockey’s license for 1 Race Day i.e. 28th October, 2018 for not following the specific instructions of the Trainer.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “FURIOSA” (P.TREVOR) IN RACE NO.93 – THE JAIDEV PLATE  - RUN ON 16TH SEPTEMBER, 2018:

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Faisal A.Abbas in the above connection. He said that his instructions to Jockey P,Trevor were to jump and hit the front. When asked for his observation of the race,  he said that Jockey P.Trevor informed him after the race that when the gates were about to open the filly was a bit reluctant and hence he missed the jump by fraction of a second and could not hit the front. He said that going by this filly’s record, she has run her best races going to the front, unfortunately the pace was too fast in this race and the Jockey could not take over the running and this could be the reason for her poor performance.

The video recording of Race No.93 was viewed.

Trainer Faisal A.Abbas said that the filly has had 23 starts in her career and has won two races, once during the current Pune Meeting and prior to that in 2016 and both her wins were in Class-V whereas in race No.93 she ran in Class-IV and the timing of the race was 0-58.392 seconds and his filly’s best timing was 59.15 seconds but she did not win that race and prior to that when she won during this Pune Meeting, her timing was 1 – 0.528 seconds, hence he felt that the pace was fast and the set was tougher for his filly in Race No.93 and also she could not  hit the front. When specifically asked whether he felt he had over-raced  the filly considering that she first placed 2nd, then won a race, then placed 2nd again and now ran a poor race, Trainer Faisal A.Abbas agreed that he had probably over raced the filly but said that in all her 3 earlier starts she had a chance to hit the front and the gap between the races was hardly 15 odd days.

The video recording of the previous three races of the filly during the current Pune Meeting 2018 i.e. Race Nos.8, 28 and 56 were viewed.

Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race in question as also the filly’s three previous runs during the current Pune Meeting, the explanation tendered by Trainer Faisal A.Abbas was noted.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR PERFORMANCE OF “FLEUR DE LYS” (NEERAJ RAWAL) IN RACE NO.99 – THE RAO SAHEB KEDARI GOLD TROPHY - RUN ON 16TH SEPTEMBER, 2018:

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer S.Waheed in the above connection. He said that he had told Jockey Neeraj Rawal that if he can go to the front easily then he should go to the front or else to sit in 2nd/3rd position. When asked for his observation of the race, Trainer S.Waheed said that the horse jumped out nicely and the Jockey was sitting right there and followed his instructions. He said that he had expected the filly to run in the first three and was very disappointed with the run as she had run much below his expectation. When asked for a reason for the poor performance, Trainer S.Waheed said that the filly was scoped after the race by the Equine Hospital and was found to have a Arytenoid. He said that he was first waiting for Dr.Khambatta to come and check her and take a call but after the race the Club’s Vet told him that the filly was very fresh behind the starting gates and was a bit nervous.

The video recording of Race No.99 was viewed.

When asked whether there was a change in the work or feed pattern, Trainer S,Waheed replied in the negative. To another question, he said that he had fancied the filly strong and in fact had called his owner. On being asked why he had changed the Jockey, he said that he had asked Jockey P.S.Chouhan to ride this horse but he said he was riding his stable horse ZANZIBAAR.

The video recording of the winning race of FLEUR DE LYS i.e. Race No.57 was viewed.

Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race in question as also the filly’s three previous runs during the current Pune Meeting, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered. However, keeping in mind the Endoscopy Report from the Equine Hospital “Left Arytenoid – small growth and mild swelling observed on corniculate process”, the enquiry was noted.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE PERFORMANCE OF “MOUNT OLYMPUS” (VISHAL N.BUNDE) IN RACE NO.113 – THE JANARDHAN TROPY (1400 METRES) RUN ON 23RD SEPTEMBER, 2018 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO ITS PREVIOUS RUN IN RACE NO.34 – THE MOOSA M.HOOSEIN TROPHY (DIV.I) (DASHRATH SINGH) (1200 METRES) – RUN ON 5TH AUGUST, 2018 WHERE HE WAS UNPLACED

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that when questioned in the above connection, Trainer Narendra Lagad submitted his explanation in writing stating that his instructions were similar in both the races i.e  to hit the front. He said that in Race No.34 run on 5th August, 2018 run over 1200 metres, the horse was at 8/1, he carried 58 kg and Jockey Dashrath Singh tried to hit the front but was unable to do so.
