THE TURF CLUB TROPHY (GR.III)

Turf Club Trophy was first run on 13th December 1947, as “The Turf Club Cup”. This race, which was originally run in Bombay (now Mumbai), was subsequently shifted to Pune. During the inaugural running of the race in 1947, the cup value was Rs.1000/-, a sweepstakes of Rs.300/- and Rs.15,000/- added from the fund. It was run over a mile and the first running was won by a horse named “LAKSHMI VILAS”, a brown Australian mare owned by Her Highness Maharani Seetha Devi Gaekwad of Baroda with Pandu Khade astride, trained by Major K. P. Jadhav. The Winner’s purse was Rs.16,740/-.


In 1987, when it got its Grade 3 status, the winner was “VIBRATION”, owned by Mr. & Mrs. Dickey D. Chothia and M/s. M. N. Thakkar and Mathuradas N. Thakkar trained by Ivor Fernandes and ridden by Jockey P. Shroff.
