THE R.W.I.T.C. LTD. GOLD CUP (GR.II)


The RWITC Invitational Trophy (Gr.2), was first run on 22nd February 1976 as “The RWITC Diamond Jubilee Invitational Race”. This race was originally run in Bombay (now Mumbai), and subsequently shifted to Pune. It achieved Graded status in the year 1987.
 

The inaugural running of the race in 1976 was won by “BEAUREGARD” from Calcutta owned by Mr. and Mrs. A. K. Sircar, trained by Chandrasekaran and ridden by N. Reuben. The stakes was Rs.1,40,000/-.
 

In 1987, when it got Graded status, the winner was “WHOPPER”, owned by M/s. Vijaypat Singhania and Madhupati Singhania, trained by Uttam Singh, ridden by Jockey Aslam Khader, and the stakes was Rs.5,30,000/-.
 

The RWITC Ltd. Gold Cup (Gr.2) race was earlier restricted to horses by ‘invitation’ but now all horses i.e. 4 year olds and over can take part. It is Western India’s leading inter-generational Terms race run over 2000 mts.
