THE IDAR GOLD TROPHY (GR.III)

The Idar Gold Trophy was first run on 9th February 1932, as the “Idar Cup”. This race was originally run in Bombay (now Mumbai) and subsequently shifted to Pune. Initially, it was a handicap race over a distance of one mile.
 

The inaugural running was won by “HIGHFLYER” owned by Mrs. M. Clarke, trained by R. Wallace, and ridden by Jockey Gunn. The winner’s purse was Rs.48,612/- and trophy Rs.6,000/-.
 

The race came into being during the rule in Idar state of H. H. Himmatsinghji who was a noted patron of the Western India turf, and a big owner in the 40s and 50s. He was also an active breeder and past President of the National Horse Breeding Society of India.
