The reason being, entering the straight he was racing along the rails and ARABIAN STORM, who was two off the rails, kept intimidating his horse on the inside and in the last furlong took his ground due to which he had to check his mount and thereafter he came back again and this had cost him the fourth place since the verdict was a nose.

ADDITIONAL REPORTS :

RE : STEWARDS ENQUIRY IN RACE NO.111 – THE PERCEIVED VALUE PLATE RUN ON 11th JANUARY, 2018 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that as directed by the Stewards, they had looked into the incident of fall of App. S. A. Amit on WABI SABI in the above race.

After questioning all concerned, the Stipendiary Stewards were of the view that WABI SABI (S. A. Amit), in an effort to take a light gap between JEENA (S. J. Sunil) and GANDALF (App. K. Nazil), was tightened for room as JEENA (S. J. Sunil) shied outwards due to the lateral moment of GRAND ACCORD (A. Imran Khan) thereby clipping the heels of JEENA and stumbled dislodging the rider, as such no action was called for in the matter.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF ETERNAL SUNSHINE (S. ZERVAN) IN RACE NO.103 – THE SONNY BRAR TROPHY – RUN ON 10th FEBRUARY, 2018 – TRAINER REHANULLAH KHAN AND JOCKEY S. ZERVAN :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Rehanullah Khan and Jockey S. Zervan in the above connection. Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that he had instructed the Jockey sit in 4th/5th position, start improving from the 4 furlongs and ride her out in the straight. Jockey S. Zervan confirmed the instructions.

The video recording of the race was viewed and when asked for his observation, Trainer Rehanullah Khan said that ETERNAL SUNSHINE is a very difficult and demanding filly and she starts moving only towards the end and has always run in a similar manner. Further, he does not encourage unnecessary use of the whip and took no exception to the Jockey’s riding.

Jockey S. Zervan said that he was too close to GLORIOUS EYES (Neeraj Rawal) to use the whip and was apprehensive that if he used the whip it may hit Jockey Neeraj Rawal’s horse and also there was a risk of the whip falling from his hand, as such he just kept tapping the mare on the shoulders and rode out. To a specific question, Jockey S. Zervan said that he has not worked the mare recently but had worked her during the last Mumbai Season. Trainer Rehanullah Khan added that Jockey S. Zervan was slated to work the mare, however, due to previous engagement he was unable to work her before this race.

Having heard the submissions made by the Trainer and Jockey and having viewed the video recording of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards are not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey S. Zervan as they felt that Jockey S. Zervan could have been more vigorous in his riding effort and as such reporting the matter to the Stewards for such action as they deem fit.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 23rd February, 2018 interviewed Trainer Rehanullah Khan and Jockey S. Zervan in the above connection and having heard them and having viewed the video recording of the race, decided to give Jockey S. Zervan the benefit of the doubt.
