The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 9th March, 2017 interviewed Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Dr.P.T.Khambatta in the above connection and having considered all the submissions made by them as also the Club’s Sr.V.O., Dr.S.K.Kulkarni and having scrutinized the relevant documents/log books, the Stewards of the Club were convinced that there was a genuine clerical error in recording the treatment given to DHISHOOM, however, such incidents casts a doubt on the integrity of racing.  The Stewards held the view that  there was negligence on the part of Dr.P.T.Khambatta wherein he had failed to exercise the requisite degree of care in accurately recording/logging  the treatment given to the horse and that he was directly accountable for the actions of his employees. RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE LOSS OF WHIP BY JOCKEY SURAJ NARREDU ON HIS MOUNT “MAGICAL MEMORY” IN  RACE NO.121 – THE SIR H.M.MEHTA TROPHY– RUN ON 15TH JANUARY, 2017:

After the race, Jockey Suraj Narredu (MAGICAL MEMORY) reported that passing 200 metres he had lost his whip as he was tightened for room.

On questioning, Jockey Suraj Narredu stated that approaching the 200 metres, he had used the whip on the left and at the same time IRISH BAILEY (A.Sandesh) shifted in on to him due to which he had lost his balance and in the process lost his whip. To a specific question, Jockey Suraj Narredu said that he was not sure whether the whip had come in contact with the horse next to him.

After having heard Jockey Suraj Narredu and having viewed the video recording of the race as also the blow up of the incident of the loss of whip, the interference mentioned by the Jockey was borne out and it may have led to the loss of whip, hence Jockey Suraj Narredu was given the benefit of doubt and this being his first offence, no action was initiated against him.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “STAR OF HARMONY” (DRAWN-4) IN RACE NO 167 - THE G2 GOLD CUP - RUN ON 18TH FEBRUARY 2017 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that Jockey Suraj Narredu was questioned on 26th February, 2017 in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Jockey Suraj Narredu said that he was instructed to ride his own race. He said that his mount was inclined to run out throughout the race and passing the 600 metres the filly drifted outwards despite his efforts. Thereafter, coming into the straight, he had held on to his right reins and also used the whip from the left, however, it had no effect on the filly who kept trying to go out further and due to this he was unable to ride out his mount to complete advantage. He said that subsequently he had reliably learnt that after the race the filly had a sprain on her off fore and was treated for the same which may have been the reason for her behavior.

Trainer M.Narredu was questioned on 27th February, 2017. He stated that after the race, the filly had a sprain and was treated for the same which could be borne out from the Medication Log Book.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video of the race and on scrutinizing the Medication Log Book, the statements made by the Trainer and Jockey was confirmed as the filly was subjected to an X-Ray on 19th February, 2017 and thereafter treated by the Club’s Vet and Dr.Prashant Wandhare. In view of the above, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted and the enquiry was closed.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “HEADLINES” (DRAWN-7) IN RACE NO 168 - THE FEDORA PLATE (1000 METRES) - RUN ON 18TH FEBRUARY 2017 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that Trainer Altaf Hussain and Jockey Akshay Gaikwad were questioned in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Tr.Altaf Hussain said that being a big field, he had instructed the Jockey to sit in 6th/7th position and thereafter coming into the straight to do his best. When asked about his observation of the race, Trainer Altaf Hussain said that Jockey Akshay Gaikwad has an awkward whipping action which he has been trying to correct and had also requested the Riding Instructor to correct his whipping action. He said that the filly has undergone a tie back surgery and she was still a maiden. He said that he intends to race the filly next over 1200 metres or 1400 metres and would put up a better rider.

Jockey Akshay Gaikwad confirmed the instructions and said that he had ridden out the horse and did his best. On being asked about his riding effort in the straight, he said that when he used the whip, the filly shifted in after which he again collected her and rode out. He added that in the process of using the whip, it almost slipped out of his hand, hence he was cautious thereafter.

Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race, the Stipendiary Stewards were not entirely satisfied with the Jockey’s riding effort. However, keeping in mind the explanation of the Trainer that the filly had undergone a tie back surgery and she was still a maiden and that Jockey Akshay Gaikwad is of an average calibre, no action was initiated in the matter and the Trainer and Jockey have been informed that the enquiry was kept open and a close watch will be kept on the future running of the filly.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “OSCILLATION” (DRAWN-4) IN RACE NO 169 - THE STYLECRACKER NIGHT MARKET TROPHY (DIV.II) (1400 METRES) - RUN ON 18TH FEBRUARY 2017 :

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that Trainer Shazaan Shah and Jockey A.Sandesh were questioned in the above connection. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned, Tr.Shazaan Shah said that he had instructed the Jockey to sit in mid bunch in 5th or 6th position and to do his best in the straight. When asked about his observation of the race, Trainer Shazaan Shah said that in the initial stages of the race, his horse was in 9th position, way behind what he had expected and it was very difficult to win a race coming from that position. He said that on being questioned after the race, the Jockey informed him that he had received interference soon after the start due to which he lost position. To a specific question, Trainer Shazaan Shah opined that the Jockey could have sat in a better position and in the straight he would have preferred if the Jockey had made his move from the outside since he was a big made horse (490 kg).

Jockey A.Sandesh said that he was instructed to sit in 3rd/4th position and to do his best. He said that soon after the start he got into the horse to get into position, however, the horse lacked the speed. Further, Jockey P.S.Chouhan (SWEEPING MOVE) who was racing ahead of him on the outside, received interference and shifted in due to which he had to check his mount and shift out. Thereafter, coming into the straight the field was spread out and REPLICA (App.S.A.Amit) was inclined to go out and at the same time he found a clear run along the inside and hence made his run along the rails.

Having heard the submissions made and viewing the video recording of the race, of all angles, the Stipendiary Stewards decided to close the enquiry.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “GENEROUS LADY” IN RACE NO.151 – THE D.N.ZODGE PLATE (DIV.I) RUN ON 8TH OCTOBER, 2016 :

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on 12th March, 2017 interviewed Trainer C.D.Katrak and Jockey D.S.Daman who was accompanied by his Spokesman, Mr.Adhirajsingh Jodha, in the above connection.

The Stewards of the Club having heard Jockey D.S.Daman/his Spokesman, Mr.Adhirajsingh Jodha as also Trainer C.D.Katrak and having viewed the video recording of Race No.151 as also the blow up of the incident of the loss of whip, were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey D.S.Daman and held him guilty of unsatisfactory riding on GENEROUS LADY.  In that, he had lost the whip at a crucial stage of the race in a very suspicious manner and there was a drift in the odds. Further, the Trainer had also expressed his dissatisfaction with the riding.

However, taking an overall view and keeping in mind that he had already been stopped from riding in races with effect from 13th January, 2017 till date, the Stewards of the Club held the view that he had already suffered his punishment for unsatisfactory riding and therefore decided not to impose any further punishment on this count. He was therefore free to ride from 13th March, 2017 onwards.

However, the Stewards of the Club noted with grave concern that the details of the phone call records finally provided by Jockey D.S.Daman pertaining to the period August, September and October, 2016 when compared to the Mobile phone call records for the months of November, and December, 2016, appear to have been tampered with as they were not on the letter head of the Service Provider nor did they carry the logo and hence it cannot be relied upon. Therefore, the Stewards of the Club decided that this enquiry pertaining to his Mobile phone bill records would continue and appropriate action would be initiated against him if he was found guilty in any way.
