REENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “ALIEN” IN RACE NO. 125 – THE ESTONIA PLATE (DIV II) (1200 METRES) - RUN ON 19th JANUARY, 2017:

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Mansoor Shah and Jockey A. Sandesh in the above connection, Trainer Shah stated that he had instructed Jockey A. Sandesh to settle the gelding and sit well off the pace. However, in case the favorite goes to the front then to sit well up. He added that the above instructions were given in view of the gelding’s performance in its previous two starts during the current Mumbai Meeting. Trainer Shah stated that in Race No. 14 which was run over 6 furlongs he observed that the gelding came on well from behind and placed a good 3rd. However, in its next outing i.e. Race No. 57, run over 7 furlongs, the gelding went to the front and packed up in the final stages. Jockey A. Sandesh confirmed the instructions and stated that it was a slow run race and immediately after the start Jockey Neeraj Rawal on D’ACCORD forced him to travel wide.

To a question, Trainer Mansoor Shah said that he did not take exception to the Jockey’s riding and attributed the poor performance of his charge to the top weight he carried in this race. He said that In Race No.14, which was a Class III race, the gelding carried 51kgs and finished on well. However, in the race in question which was a Class IV race, he carried 61 kg. and was found wanting.

Having heard the submissions made and having viewed the video of the race, the enquiry has been kept open and a close watch will be kept on the future running of the horse.
