ADDITIONAL REPORTS :

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RIDING OF APP.S.A.AMIT ON “SINDBAAD” IN RACE NO.103 – THE GIRONDE PLATE RUN ON 10th SEPTEMBER, 2016 :

Trainer Nirad Karanjawala complained against App. S. A. Amit, stating that he was dissatisfied with the riding of the Apprentice on his charge “SINDBAAD”.

Trainer Nirad Karanjawala stated that he had instructed the Apprentice to go to the front if he can or else sit second, take over the running once in the straight, keep the whip in the left hand as the gelding has the tendency to drift out and to ride out using the whip to good measure. App. S. A. Amit confirmed the instructions.

The race in question was viewed in the presence of all concerned.  Trainer Karanjawala pointed out that he only took exception to the fact that the Apprentice did not use the whip as instructed, other than that he could not find fault with his riding efforts. Further, he stated that the Apprentice has ridden the gelding in a race during the last Mumbai Meeting while he was yet a 5 kg allowance claimer and not permitted the use of whip. After the said race, the Apprentice had informed him that the gelding does not respond without whipping. The Trainer therefore felt that despite knowing the horse’s habit, not using the whip was very suspicious. Trainer Karanjawala went on to add that in the very next race on the same day App. S. A. Amit rode a horse called “OLLY BOY” on whom he used the whip 8 times, thus establishing the fact that he is competent with the whip. When questioned about the same, App. S. A. Amit stated that he thought he had won the race not realizing he had a horse on his outside. To a specific question App. S. A. Amit stated that he had every intention to win the race.

After hearing all concerned and not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by App. S. A. Amit, his Apprentice Jockey’s license has been suspended for a period of 4 days for unsatisfactory riding.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR/BELOW EXPECTATION PERFORMANCE OF “INDUS PRINCE”  IN RACE NO.86 – THE ESTERELLI PLATE - RUN ON 3rd SEPTEMBER, 2016 :

Vide Office letter dated 15th September, 2016 Trainer Nazak Chenoy was asked to give her reasons in writing as to why action should not be initiated against her in the captioned subject matter. Vide her letter dated 19th September, 2016, Trainer Nazak Chenoy stated that training program/schedule has remained unremarkable. The instructions were similar in all the races i.e. to go to the front or sit well up, however, the previous two starts where the horse performed better, were 1200 metre races run on firm ground whereas this time the horse raced over 1000 metres and the going was bad and the horse jumped slightly outwards and was not able to go to the front and received a lot of kickback throughout the race which was detrimental to his willingness to gallop. Also, the horse played up whilst being loaded and banged his nose/head against the gate after being stalled which she had brought to the attention of the Chief Stipe and the Starter. She felt that all the above factors had an adverse effect on the horse’s performance in Race No.86.

Having viewed the video of the race, the explanation tendered by Tr. Nazak Chenoy was noted.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR/BELOW EXPECTATION PERFORMANCE OF “CAVALIA”  IN RACE NO.90 – THE K.RAGHUNATH PLATE - RUN ON 3rd SEPTEMBER, 2016 :

Vide Office letter dated 15th September, 2016 Trainer C. Rajendra was asked to give his reasons in writing as to why action should not be initiated against him in the captioned subject matter. Vide his email dated 23rd September, 2016, Trainer C. Rajendra said that he himself was surprised with the poor performance of CAVALIA in Race No.90. He explained that when CAVALIA ran in Race No.26 on 6th August, 2016 there were no false rails, however, when he ran in Race No. 90  on 3rd September, 2016 there were wide false rails and horses on the inner part of the track were not galloping and five favourites lost on that day.  Also, his filly has joint problem and she was carrying top weight

Having viewed the video of the race, the explanation tendered by Trainer C. Rajendra was noted.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR/BELOW EXPECTATION PERFORMANCE OF “PHOENIX KNIGHT”  IN RACE NO.91 – THE RADIO ONE RUN - RUN ON 3rd SEPTEMBER, 2016 :

Vide Office letter dated 15th September, 2016 Trainer Dallas Todywalla was asked to give his reasons in writing as to why action should not be initiated against him in the captioned subject matter. Vide his letter dated 16th September, 2016, Trainer Dallas Todywalla explained that PHOENIX KNIGHT was drawn-1 and loaded first. The other horses took a long time to get loaded and his horse got upset standing in the gate for a long time, causing him to rear up in the gates and when the start was given he refused to raise a good gallop during the race.

Having viewed the video of the race, the explanation tendered by Trainer Dallas Todywalla was noted.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE/IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF  “SCARLET OF HOPE”  IN RACE NO.100 – THE WEIZHOU PLATE (DIV. RUN ON 10th SEPTEMBER, 2016 WHICH THE MARE WON AS COMPARED TO HER PREVIOUS RUNS DURING THE CURRENT PUNE MEETING :

Vide Office letter dated 15th September, 2016 Trainer Altaf Hussain was asked to give his reasons in writing as to why action should not be initiated against him in the captioned subject matter. Vide his letter dated 18th September, 2016, Trainer Altaf Hussain has explained that “SCARLET OF HOPE” ran 2 races in the current Pune Season before winning in Race No.100  on 10/09/16. On 29th July, 2016, she ran in Race No.18 in Class IV over 1200 metres with Apprentice Jockey Akshay Gaikwad. She ran a forward race and finished 6th. Again on 14th August, 2016 she ran in Race No.41 in Class IV over a distance of 1400 metres with Jockey Srikanth Kamble. Here again she ran a forward race. He then gave her a gap of 27 days and ran her on 10th September, 2016 in Race No.100 in Class V, Div.II over 1000 metres and put on Apprentice Jockey Akshay Gaikwad and claimed a 5 kg. allowance. Here again she ran a forward race and won. She opened as a favourite and there was no common horse and also there was a drop in Class from IV to V. She is a 6 year old filly and the last time she won was a year back in August, 2015.”

Having viewed the video of the race in question as also the horse’s two previous runs during the current Pune Meeting, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Trainer Altaf Hussain. In that, it was noted in the previous start in Race No.41 the filly was at longer odds whereas in the race in question the filly won well backed. Therefore, the Stipendiary Stewards decided to fine Tr. Altaf Hussain a sum of Rs.10,000/- for the improved performance of his charge SCARLET OF HOPE in Race No.100 vis-à-vis her earlier two runs during the current Pune Meeting.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING  OF “SHIVALIK PRINCESS” (DRAWN.8) IN RACE NO.100 - THE WEIZHOU PLATE (DIV.II), RUN ON SATURDAY 10th SEPTEMBER, 2016:

Trainer C. D. Katrak and Jockey Amyn Merchant were questioned regarding the running and riding of SHIVALIK PRINCESS in the above race. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned on 15th September, 2016, Trainer C. D. Katrak said that he had instructed Jockey Amyn Merchant to sit in a good position and to do his best. He said that SHIVALIK PRINCESS was hampered by STARRY MOMENT, the Jockey had done his best and he took no exception to the Jockey’s riding at any part of the race. He said that the horse is owned by him and his Wife and he has always told his Jockeys to do their best so as to earn as much stake money as possible. He said that he intends to race the horse soon over 1600 metres.

Jockey Amyn Merchant had fractured his collar bone and was not available for questioning.

Jockey Amyn Merchant was questioned on 7th October, 2016 and he confirmed the instructions and said that the filly lacked initial speed, as such, he could not sit in a good position. Thereafter, coming into the straight when the filly got into her stride he was immediately crowded and did not have sufficient room to make his run.

Trainer C. D. Katrak stated that the filly was mediocre and the only time she has run on board was in her subsequent start with Jockey Neeraj Rawal in Race No.145 (The said race was viewed). He opined that in the race in question if the filly was not hampered for room in the straight, she would have probably placed.

After hearing the submissions and viewing the video of the race in question as also the filly’s subsequent run, the explanation tendered by the Trainer and Jockey was noted.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE COMPARATIVE/IMPROVED PERFORMANCE OF  “ALECTAR”  IN RACE NO.103 – THE GIRONDE PLATE RUN ON 10th SEPTEMBER, 2016 WHICH THE GELDING WON AS COMPARED TO HIS PREVIOUS RUNS DURING THE CURRENT PUNE MEETING :

Sandesh. He opened as a favourite at 18/10 and odds drifted to 5/1 and he won the race. There was no common horse.

RE:ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING  OF “PALATIAL” (DRAWN.11) IN RACE NO.104 - THE ROSMINI PLATE, RUN ON SATURDAY 10th SEPTEMBER, 2016:

Trainer C. D. Katrak and Jockey Amyn Merchant were questioned regarding the running and riding of his charge PALATIAL in the above race. The video of the race was viewed and when questioned on 15th September, 2016 Trainer C. D. Katrak said that he had instructed Jockey Amyn Merchant to sit wherever he could and to do his best. He said that he had fancied the horse in Place and would have liked the Jockey to have been a little more vigorous in the last 100 metres as he felt that he was a little weak in his riding effort which possibly cost him the third place. He added that due to the wide false rails, the track was a bit narrow at the start and had placed his horse at a disadvantage since he was drawn on the outside.

Jockeyk Amyn Merchant had fractured his collar bone and was not available for questioning.

Jockey Amyn Merchant, when questioned on 7th October, 2016, confirmed the instructions and stated that his mount had to be ridden from the word go as such he was a little tired in the straight. Also, the kick back may have affected the horse.

The video of the race was viewed and Jockey Amyn Merchant was asked as to why he travelled wide after the start, to which he replied that he was drawn on the outside and he was not able to bring the horse in. Thereafter, coming into the straight, he had clipped the front runner and shifted in. It was pointed out to Jockey Amyn Merchant that he had ridden his horse into the front horse causing the horse to clip. Trainer C. D. Katrak and Jockey Amyn Merchant concurred with the Stipes view in this regard.

After hearing the submissions and viewing the video of the race and keeping in mind the Trainer’s statement that the horse had lost a certain third place, the Stipendiary Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Amyn Merchant and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license for two race days for incompetent riding. The suspension will take effect from the first Race Day of the Mumbai Meeting 2016/17 (permitted to ride work/mock race).

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE POOR/BELOW EXPECTATION PERFORMANCE OF “MOTHERLAND”  IN RACE NO.142 – THE WARSAW PACT TROPHY (DIV.II) - RUN ON 25th SEPTEMBER, 2016 :

Vide Office letter dated 29th September, 2016 Trainer Dallas Todywalla was asked to give his reasons in writing as to why action should not be initiated against him in the captioned subject matter. Vide his letter dated 30th September, 2016, Trainer Dallas Todywalla explained that MOTHERLAND played up badly at the starting gate which she had never done before and at start she missed the kick losing about 4 to 5 lengths whereby Jockey A. Sandesh had to utilize her to get into a good position. Being a 1000 metres race and the filly being upset at the start and losing about 4 to 5 lengths, all these factors had led to her poor performance.

Having viewed the video of the race, the explanation tendered by Tr. Dallas Todywalla was noted.
