RACE NO 1. (153) - THE ESCAPADE PLATE (DIV.II):  (About) 1400  Metres.   RUNNERS - 9

TRY YOUR LUCK (J.Pradeep) jumped out awkwardly, thus losing about 2 lengths at the start.

At the start, NARA (Anil Baandal) jumped out awkwardly whereby the Jockey lost his balance momentarily.

Soon after the start, ARAMINTA (App.Shammi Khan) hesitated to raise an effective gallop and consequently lost its position in the race.

RACE NO 2. (154)- THE ESCAPADE PLATE (DIV.I):  (About) 1400 Metres.   RUNNERS - 9

SARA JAHAN (S.S.Baria) was sluggish, losing about a length at the start.

Jockey Vikram Jodha (ADJUSTMENT) has been reprimanded for failing to continue making an effort till past the Post.

After the race, UP NORTH was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

RACE NO 3. (155) - THE ISMAIL KHAN PLATE:  (About) 2400  Metres.   RUNNERS - 8

After being stalled, TROMOS (Aadesh Kumar) hooked his left hind on the side platform. The colt was unloaded and examined by the Club’s Sr.V.O. who certified him fit to race.

DIPLOMATIC LICENCE (S.S.Baria) jumped out slowly, losing about 4 lengths at the start. Trainer Dr.Anil Kumar has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting with him to race.

An objection was lodged by Jockey Sunny Chinoy, the rider of POLAR GLOW (placed 3rd) against Jockey Aadesh Kumar, the rider of TROMOS (placed 2nd) for bumping near 100 metres due to which his filly lost her stride and movement and in the last 50 metres TROMOS kept rolling on to him, whereby he lost a certain 2nd place and may be even the race.

The Stewards interviewed the Jockeys concerned and viewed the video recording of the race. Having considered the submissions made in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards and having deliberated the matter, the Stewards decided to uphold the Objection and to revise the order of placing as under :-

EAGLE MOUNTAIN                 First;                TROMOS          -           Third;

POLAR GLOW                        Second;          EQUALITY        -           Fourth

Trainer S.K. Sunderji and Jockey Aadesh Kumar were questioned regarding the running and riding of TROMOS. Trainer Sunderji stated that this horse is sluggish at the start, however, this being a 2400 metres race, he felt that the pace would be slow and hence instructed Jockey Aadesh Kumar to settle the horse in 3rd/4th position, to make his move from the 1000 metres and to do his best. He opined that when the Jockey found himself so far behind, he should have used his judgement and moved from the 1200 metres, otherwise he took no exception to the Jockey’s riding.

Jockey Aadesh Kumar confirmed the instructions. When asked as to why he did not start improving from the 1200 metres when he found himself so far behind, Jockey Aadesh Kumar explained that at that stage his horse had settled well and he felt that if he pushed the horse at that stage, the horse would become keen and come on the bit and if he had used him at that stage he would have nothing left towards the end. He said that even from the position that he was, he would have certainly won the race if the horse had not started hanging-in in the straight due to which he had to stop using the whip and pull him out on a couple of occasions.

The matter was reported to the Stewards. The Stewards interviewed the Trainer S.K.Sunderji and Jockey Aadesh Kumar and having heard the submissions made by them and viewing the video recording of the race, decided to give Jockey Aadesh Kumar the benefit of the doubt.

RACE NO 4. (156) - THE SUN KING PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1000 Metres.   RUNNERS - 11

At the start, WIND STORM (H.G.Rathod, dr.7) tried to run out. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

Soon after the start, SAIL THRU (App.Shrikant Kamble, dr.5) shifted in and hampered the running of MERCEDES (J Pradeep, dr.3) who in turn inconvenienced FREE SPIRIT (App Kishore Kadam, dr.1). App Shrikant Kamble has been cautioned for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

Jockey Vikram Jodha (GYPSY QUEEN) has been cautioned for allowing his mount to shift in approaching 800 meters whereby JOHN CABOT (R Biramne) was inconvenienced.

Jockey Hamir Singh (CRESCENDO) fined Rs.5000/- for traveling wide throughout the race.

Jockey Vikram Jodha and Trainer HJ Antia were questioned regarding the running and riding of GYPSY QUEEN. The Jockey was instructed to take a good position and to do his best. It was observed that near 300 meters, Jockey Vikram Jodha had allowed his mount to shift in and went along the rails wherein the horse had to be checked which possibly cost him the race. The matter was reported to the Stewards.

The Stewards interviewed Trainer H.J.Antia and Jockey Vikram Jodha and having considered the submissions made by them and having viewed the video recording of Race No.156, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Vikram Jodha and held him guilty of unsatisfactory riding on his mount GYPSY QUEEN.  In that, on entering the straight he had his whip in the left hand and when the filly started hanging in, he did not change his whip to the right hand to try and correct the filly and in the last furlong allowed the filly to shift in and thereby got himself pocketed along the rails. Further, he did not use the whip even once in the last furlong and he was not vigorous in his riding effort. The Stewards considered his past record.

However, considering that the horse was at longer odds, the Stewards took a lenient view in the matter and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 12th October, 2008 to 25th October, 2008 (both days inclusive) and from 16th November, 2008 to 7th December, 2008 (both days inclusive). Further, he was severely cautioned for the future. (permitted to ride work/mock race).

Jockey J.Pradeep was observed to be feeble in his riding effort in the straight. Trainer Hosidar Daji and Jockey J Pradeep were questioned regarding the running and riding of MERCEDES.  Jockey J.Pradeep said that the surcingle on his mount had slipped back in the straight due to which the saddle started moving side ways and hence he was scared for his life and did not ride out in the last part.  Tr.Hosidar Daji stated that he had observed that the Jockey had not ridden out the horse in the last part and on his questioning, the Jockey had informed him that the surcingle had slipped back and he was scarred to ride out.

On checking the saddle after the race, it was observed that the  surcingle had slipped back but the saddle was very much in place. The matter was reported to the Stewards.

The Stewards interviewed Trainer Hosidar Daji and Jockey J.Pradeep in the above connection and also viewed the video recording of the race. The Stewards noted that the surcingle had slipped and the Jockey may have been uncomfortable due to which the Jockey was not vigorous.  Therefore, the Stewards decided to give Jockey J.Pradeep the benefit of the doubt and the Stipendiary Stewards were directed to fine Trainer Hosidar Daji  for not taking sufficient care in the saddling of his charge. Accordingly,  Tr.Hosidar Daji has been fined Rs.2000/-.

After the race, NOTABLE RUNNER was observed to have an abrasion on the left shank.

RACE NO 5. (157) - THE FOURTH ESTATE TROPHY: (About) 1000 Metres.   RUNNERS - 9

NOBLE DEEDS (Satish Nayak) was sluggish, losing about a length at the start.

After the race, BOLD ACT was found to be sore by the right fore leg. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s VO before next accepting to race.

RACE NO 6. (158) – THE IDAR GOLD CUP (GR.3):  (About) 2400 Metres.   RUNNERS - 6

SILVER TERN (S.S.Baria) jumped out slowly, losing about 3 lengths at the start. Trainer Subhag Singh has been asked to give the gelding more gate practice and to show him to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting with him to race.

Approaching 200 meters, ANGELIQUE (PS Chouhan) shifted in under the use of the whip and hampered the running of NITROUS (Wayne Smith). Jockey P.S. Chouhan has been fined 2000/- for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

NITROUS (Wayne Smith) lugged in during the race and scraped the rails near 600 meters and again in the straight. Trainer Dallas Todywalla has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

NITROUS (Wayne Smith) was placed fifth and SILVER TERN (S.S.Baria) was placed sixth by the Judge, in this race.

RACE NO 7. (159) – THE NATURAL CRAZE PLATE:  (About) 1400 Metres.   RUNNERS - 12

NATIVE STRATEGY ((Riyaz Shaikh, dr. 11) jumped out awkwardly towards the inside and jostled with FANTASTIC FURY (J Pradeep, dr.10). Nevertheless, Jockey Riyaz Shaikh has been asked to be more alert at the gates.

Approaching 1200 meters, FREDERICIA (Malcolm Kharadi) and GATRAVAT (Aadesh Kumar) were hampered for run and were checked by their respective Riders due to a tightly packed field.

Near 1000 meters, ABSOLUTE REALITY (H.G. Rathod) was checked due to tightening and dropped back and in the process hampered the running of DAFFODILS (Neeraj Rawal).

Jockey J.Pradeep (FANTASTIC FURY) has been severely cautioned for not keeping a straight course in the final stages of the race.

The Sr.V.O. reported that DAFFODILS was examined after the race and found to be sound. The filly had a wolf tooth on the right side.

RACE NO 8. (160) - THE SUN KING PLATE (DIV.I):  (About) 1000 Metres. RUNNERS - 11

INCREDIBLE BEAUTY (Hamir Singh) jumped out slowly, losing about 4 lengths at the start. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to give the filly more gate practice and to show her to the satisfaction of the starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting with her to race.

XIAMEN (Riyaz Shaikh, dr.4) jumped out awkwardly towards the inside and went on to RISING EMPEROR (I Shaikh, dr.3). At the same time, QUAND MEME (S.N.Chavan, dr.1) and SWEPT AWAY (App.S.Zervan, dr.2) were involved in boring each other and in the process SWEPT AWAY shifted out and hampered the running of RISING EMPEROR. Soon thereafter, XIAMEN (Riyaz Shaikh) shifted in and forced SWEPT AWAY (App.S.Zervan) to shift in and hamper the running of QUAND MEME (S.N.Chavan). Since the incidents were accidental, no action has been initiated against anyone.

At the start, HOT TALENT (App.D.S.Rathore, dr. 9) jumped out awkwardly towards the outside and made contact with GAME OF POWER (App Shammi Khan, dr. 10). App.D.S. Rathore has been asked to be more careful at the Gates.

In the final stages of the race, BLUE DAFFODILS (Nirmal Jodha) shifted in under use of the whip and hampered the running of HOT TALENT (App.D.S. Rathore). Jockey Nirmal Jodha has been fined Rs.5000/- for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

It was observed that during the race the bit on MAVERICK (J.Pradeep) slipped to the right side and thereafter the bridle came off.

After the race, SWEPT AWAY was observed to have an abrasion on the right hind fetlock.

RACE NO 9. (161) - THE SUPER HERO PLATE:  (About) 1200 Metres. RUNNERS - 11

Trainer Janardhan has been fined 1000/- for not informing the use of  the basket bit on his charge AMARANZA. The horse ran with Basket Bit

THE RIGHT MAN (J.E.Pereira) was slow in the stride, losing about 2 lengths at the start.

Near 800 meters, due to a tightly packed field, MUSTANG SALLY (S.S.Baria) shifted out and tightened AMADOMIO (H.G. Rathod) on to UBER ALLES (Anil Baandal) due to which AMADOMIO lost its position and while dropping back hampered the running of THE RIGHT MAN (J.E.Pereira) and TE QUIERO (App Kishore Kadam).  Since the incident was accidental, no action has been initiated against any rider.

SIN CITY (R.Biramne) trailed the field and while negotiating the final bend hung out. Trainer Altaf Hussain has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting to race the gelding.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “BLACK PARTRIDGE” IN RACE NO.119 – THE ICARUS PLATE (DIV.II) RUN ON SATURDAY, 13TH SEPTEMBER, 2008 :

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 27th September, 2008 interviewed Trainer Magansingh P.Jodha and Jockey Dasrath Singh. Having considered all the submissions made by them and viewing the video recording of Race No.119, the Stewards were not satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey Dashrath Singh and held him guilty of unsatisfactory riding on your mount BLACK PARTRIDGE.  In that, he made no effort to improve his position throughout the back stretch and also in the early part of the straight to sit closer to the front runners in a 1000 metres race and started riding out only in the last 50 metres and the horse responded. The Stewards held the view that if he had sat closer to the front runners he may have won the race.

However, taking an over all view and keeping in mind that Jockey Dashrath Singh had just come back after a long lay off due to an injury, the Stewards took a lenient view in the matter and decided to suspend his Jockey’s license w.e.f. 12th October, 2008 to 25th October, 2008 (both days inclusive) inclusive). Further, he was severely cautioned for the future. (permitted to ride work/mock race).
