RACE NO 1. (145) - THE STUNNING PLATE: (About) 1600 Metres.  Runners - 7

 

Jockey C.Rajendra (RECARDO) reported that during the running of the race the bit on his mount slipped to the right side and subsequently the bridle slipped to the left side. The jockey explained that his horse raced keenly in the early part of the race and in trying to settle his mount the bit may have slipped.

 

The Stewards considered the above report and directed the Stipendiary Stewards to make further enquiries into the matter and to submit a report.

 

After the race SHARE MY DREAMS was observed to have an abrasion on the left hind fetlock and STAR LUXURIOUS had an abrasion on the right hind pastern.

 

RACE NO 2 (146) - THE DIAMOND SHOWERS PLATE:  (About) 1000 Metres. Runners - 10

 

Jockey Riyaz Shaikh (DISCOVER) reported loss of his whip at about 100 metres from the winning post. Since this was the first time the jockey has reported loss of his whip during the current Pune Meeting, no action has been initiated against him beyond reminding him of the notice with regard to the loss of whip.

 

Near 800 meters, BORZU AGAIN (App.Ishwar Pardeshi) shifted in and hampered the running of DISCOVER (Riyaz Shaikh). App.Ishwar Pardeshi has been cautioned for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

Soon after entering the straight, DISCOVER (Riyaz Shaikh) shifted in and went across FLYING ROCK (R.Shelar) and then forced RUBAIYAT (Aadesh Kumar) to change course and shift in. Jockey Riyaz Shaikh has been reprimanded for filing to exercise proper control over his mount.

 

Jockey Khalandar (TRIBAL WARRIOR) has been fined Rs.2000/- for traveling wide through out the race.

 

After the race, RUBAIYAT was observed to have broken a blood vessel and is not to race for the stipulated period of 4 weeks. The filly has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, TEHRANI was observed to be sore by the right fore leg. Also, the gelding was found to have a wolf tooth on the left side. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

After the race, KATANIA was observed to have an abrasion on the right hind fetlock and DISCOVER had an abrasion on the right hind coronet.

 

RACE NO. 3 (147) - THE SILVER FIRE PLATE:  (About) 1200 Metres.   Runners - 10

 

GOLDEN GRACE (K.P.G.Appu) was sluggish thus losing about a length at the start.

 

Soon after the start EL BUNDUQ (Neeraj Rawal) shifted out  and ALOHAMORA (Sunny Chinoy) shifted in and converged  onto ZEN (Samuel Fargeat) causing him to lose his position. Jockey Neeraj Rawal and Sunny Chinoy have been fined Rs.3000/- each for failing to exercise proper control over their respective mounts.

 

Passing 800 metres FIGHTING FANTASY (Nirmal Jodha) was inconvenienced when BRAD (C.Rajendra) shifted in due to the bend, as a result FIGHTING FANTASY shifted in and made contact with ZEN (Samuel Fargeat) and ricocheted and had to be steadied to avoid  clipping the heels of BRAD.

 

 

After the race, FIGHTING FANTASY was observed to have an abrasion on the right hind pastern, EXCELLENT GIFT had an abrasion on the right hind coronet. ADAMS LAW was observed to have lost her both fore plates and HAVA NAGILA had lost her left hind plate.

RACE NO.4 (148) - THE RED RUFUS TROPHY:  (About) 1000 Metres.   Runners - 10

 

THE RISING (Amyn Merchant) played up after being stalled. The gelding was unloaded and examined by the Club’s Sr.V.O. who certified him fit to race.

 

Approaching 900 meters, BALTHAZAR (Nirmal Jodha) shifted in and jostled with WAFADAR (K.P.G.Appu) unbalancing the latter, who shifted in and caused interference to STARTHENDRICK (P.Kamlesh) who lost its position. Jockey Nirmal Jodha was reported to the Stewards.

 

The Stewards interviewed Jockey Nirmal Jodha and not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by him, decided to suspend his Jockey’s License w.e.f  6th October 2008 up to 11th October 2008 (both days inclusive for careless riding on his mount. (Permitted to ride work/ Mock race).

  

Near 800 meters, STAR GIRL (C.S.Jodha) received interference when STRATHENDRICK (P.Kamlesh) shifted in when being steadied by its Rider due to close proximity of GENERALISSIMO (Sunny Chinoy) on his outside who was inclined to lug in. Since the incident was accidental, no action has been initiated against any Jockey. However, Trainer Narendra Lagad has been asked to take remedial measures before next accepting with his charge GENERALISSIMO.

 

After the race, FIREFOOT was observed to have a bleeding injury on her lower lip, on the inside.

 

RACE NO.5 (149) - THE FAIR HAVEN TROPHY: (About) 1400 Metres. Runners - 9

 

At the request of Tr.S.K.Sunderji, MAJOR WAGER was examined by the Club’s Sr.V.O. at 2100 hours on 18/09/2008 and found to have fever, as such, the gelding was certified unfit to race and hence withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

On arrival at the start, SOLID BLACK was examined by the Club’s Sr.V.O. and found to have stiffness of the left hind quarters, as such, the gelding was certified unfit to race and hence withdrawn before coming under the Starter’s order.

Soon after the start, SEA PRINCESS (C.Rajendra) shifted in and forced DANCE MAESTRO (Neeraj Rawal) to shift in and inconvenience IKARIA (M.Narredu). Jockey C Rajendra has been cautioned for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

 

In the final stages of the race, IKARIA (M.Narredu) shifted in and inconvenienced SOCARORO (Amyn Merchant). Jockey M Narredu has been cautioned for failing to exercise proper control over his mount. 

 

Jockey C.S.Jodha (SPITZ) reported that the bridle on his mount came off from the right ear at the start.

 

After the race, IKARIA was observed to have an abrasion on the right hind coronet and had lost his right hind plate

RACE NO.6 (150) - THE CHANTILLI CHALLENGE:  (About) 1400 Metres. Runners - 15

 

CZAR ALEXANDER (M.Narredu, dr.3) jumped out awkwardly towards the inside. HUGO (Nirmal Jodha, dr.10) jumped out awkwardly whereby the jockey lost his balance momentarily.

 

After the race, ADAM’S STAR was observed to have an abrasion on the right hind coronet

 

RACE NO.7 (151) - THE ERIN WAY PLATE:  (About) 1200  Metres.  Runners - 11

 

LA JOIE DE VIE was entered and accepted to race when the filly was not eligible to be entered and/ or run as such the filly was not permitted to run. Trainer Narendra Lagad has been reported to the Stewards for breach of Rules. The matter was deferred to the next Meeting of the Stewards. 

 

 

 

MOLTO BELLA (R.Shelar) was restless in the stall and lost about 2 lengths at the start. Tr.Ivor Fernandes has been asked to give the filly more gate practice and to show her to the satisfaction of the Starter at morning starting trials, before next accepting to race.

 

Passing 600 metres GAME OF TALENT (Aadesh Kumar) was inconvenienced when HONEYDAY (App.S. Zervan) shifted in. Apprentice S.Zervan has been cautioned for failing to exercise proper control over his mount.

 

Jockey Neeraj Rawal (EXPENSIVE AFFAIR) reported loss of his whip near 100 metres from the winning post. Since this was the first time the jockey has reported loss of his whip during the current Pune Meeting, no action has been initiated against him beyond reminding him of the notice with regard to the loss of whip.

 

After the race, HONEYDAY and STAR IMPACT were observed to have an abrasion on the right hind fetlock

 

RACE NO.8 (152) - THE PREMIER COLLECTION PLATE: (About) 1200 Metres. Runners - 10

 

At the request of Tr.Amjad Khan, CZECH was examined by the Club’s Sr.V.O. at 0910 hours on 20/09/2008 and found to have swelling of the right fore fetlock, as such, the gelding was certified unfit to race and hence withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

ARABIAN GUEST (C.S.Jodha) planted and took no practical part in the race. Tr.Vijay Kasbekar has been asked to take remedial measures and to show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter in a mock race, before next accepting to race.

 

After the race, ARCH RIVAL was observed to be sore by the left fore leg. The gelding has to be passed fit by the Club’s V.O. before next accepting to race.

The post race urine sample of the winner of 2nd, 3rd & 5th race viz. KATANIA, HAVA NAGILA & IKARIA and the special sample of RUBAIYAT (2nd race), BRAD (3rd race) nd OASIS STAR (6th race) have been collected for detection of prohibited substance.

RE : ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “UPROAR” IN RACE NO.135 – THE NATIONALISTIC PLATE (DIV.I) RUN ON SUNDAY, 14TH SEPTEMBER, 2008 :

 

Trainer S.K.Sunderji and Jockey R.Shelar were questioned in the above connection. Trainer Sunderji stated that UPROAR is a very difficult horse who has to be led to the start and has a strong mouth and fights for his head. He said that this horse went to the front only once as a baby and fizzled out. In this race he had instructed Jockey R.Shelar to settle the horse in 5th/6th position and to do his best in the straight. Jockey R.Shelar confirmed the instructions.

 

The video recording of Race No.135 was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey Shelar that when the gates opened he was holding  his reins tight and did not give the horse a chance to gallop freely and after traveling about 50 metres  he had checked the horse so much  that he was almost last in the race. Jockey R.Shelar stated that since his instructions were to settle the horse in 5th/6th position, he was trying to settle the horse as instructed and in doing so, the horse threw his head around and thereafter he did not get a chance to settle the horse in 5th/6th position and had to ride him from the rear position.

 

The back view of the start was viewed and it was pointed out to Jockey Shelar that the horse had his mouth open indicating that he had gagged the horse in an effort to settle him behind.

 

When asked for his observation of the race, Tr.Sunderji stated that he was not happy with the Jockey’s handling of the horse in the initial part of the race, in that, the Jockey could have certainly done a better job of settling the horse in 5th/6th position as instructed and he had rebuked him after the race.

 

The video recording of Race No.228 (placed 3rd) and 295 (won) by UPROAR during the Mumbai Meeting 2007/08 was viewed and it was found that the horse had jumped out well and was up with the field and performed well.

 

Not being satisfied with the explanation tendered by Jockey R.Shelar, he has been fined Rs.5,000/- for riding an incompetent race in the early part of the race. Further, he has been cautioned for the future.

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 20th September, 2008 considered Mercy Petition from Jockey Towfeeq R.Shaikh in the above connection and having considered all papers and proceedings before them and having deliberated on the matter, decided to reject the Mercy Petition.
