RACE NO.1 (119) – THE ICARUS PLATE (DIV.II): (About) 1000 Metres - RUNNERS – 8

SOLSKJAER (App.D.S.Rathore) hesitated and jumped out awkwardly, losing about 4 lengths at the start. As this gelding had behaved in a similar manner in his previous run, Tr.Amjad Khan has been asked to take remedial measures and to show the gelding to the satisfaction of the Starter in a mock race, before next accepting to race.

MYSTERIO (App.Shrikant Kamble, dr.7) jumped out awkwardly towards the inside and jostled with BLACK PARTRIDGE (Dashrath Singh, dr.6). App.Shrikant Kamble has been cautioned to be more careful at the gates.

Approaching the 200 metres, MYSTERIO (App.Shrikant Kamble) suddenly ducked in and jostled with LANDLORD (Anil Baandal). Since the incident was accidental, no action has been initiated against the App. Shrikant Kamble.

Trainer Magansingh P.Jodha and Jockey Dashrath Singh were questioned regarding the running and riding of BLACK PARTRIDGE. Trainer Magansingh P. Jodha stated that he had instructed the jockey to ride his own race. He added that the gelding was running for the first time during the current Pune Meeting 2008 and the horse has a habit of ducking in after the start. Tr.Jodha said that after the race, the Jockey had informed him that due to the kickback he could not see. The Trainer added that the Jockey had come out of injury recently and had not gained his confidence back  which may be showing in his riding. Jockey Dasrath Singh confirmed the instructions.

Not being entirely satisfied with the riding of Dashrath Singh, the matter was reported to the Stewards. Consideration of the matter was deferred.

Trainer M.K.Jadhav was interviewed by the Stewards regarding the comparative performance of PACIFIC ZONE in this race which the gelding won as compared to his previous run in race no 94 run on 30th August 2008  where the gelding ran unplaced. Trainer Jadhav admitted that it was his mistake to run the horse in a short span of time. However, he said that he had not fancied the horse and he was available at longer odds. He said that this race was divided and the field was poor with none of the other runners having any recent form and also there was no common horse. He added that his horse had won two races in Mumbai and had some form to go by. Tr.Jadhav pointed out that PACIFIC ZONE was one of the horses who suffered from Respiratory infection during the end of the Mumbai Meeting 2007/08 and had to be kept back in Mumbai till June, 2008 and the first two races may have helped the horse.  Further, although his horse finished 9th out of 11th in the previous race, however, except for the first and second horse, the other horses finished in close proximity. He said that there was no change in his training pattern nor was there any change of equipment. Trainer M.K.Jadhav’s attention was drawn to the Calendar Notification re “Comparative Performance of Horses winning within a short span of time’ and he was warned to be more careful in the future.

After the race, BLACK PATRIDGE was observed to have an abrasion on both hind pasterns and MYSTERIO had an abrasion on the right mandible and right hind pastern.

Passing 600 metres, FLYING SPIRIT (P.Belose) was inclined to shift out and in the process of being controlled, the gelding shifted in and hampered the running of ARKS ANGEL (Y.S.Srinath) who was trying to make his move on the inside of FLYING SPIRIT at that stage. Since the incident was accidental, no action has been initiated in the matter.

An objection was lodged by Jockey M.Narredu (CAVARADOSI, placed 2nd) against Jockey Nirmal Jodha (INCH PERFECT, pl.1st). The reason being that approaching 200 metres, Jockey Nirmal Jodha used his whip with his right hand whereby his mount INCH PERFECT drifted out, due to which he received a check and his horse lost momentum, which cost him a certain race. If Jockey Nirmal Jodha had maintained a straight course, he (Jockey M.Narredu) would have won easily.

The Stewards interviewed the Jockeys concerned and reviewed the video recording of the race. Having considered the submissions made in conjunction with that of the Stipendiary Stewards and having deliberated the matter, the Stewards decided to uphold the Objection and to revise the order of placing as under :-

CAVARADOSI               -           FIRST;              INCH PERFECT -     SECOND;

HANDSOME RETURNS -           THIRD;              FALCON CREST           -     FOURTH

ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “BU ATTIFEL” IN RACE NO.64 – THE STAR WISH PLATE RUN ON 17TH AUGUST, 2008 :

The Stewards of the Club at their meeting held on Saturday, 13th September, 2008 interviewed Jockey V.Kotwal and Trainer Faisal A.Abbas.
