Trainer P.Shroff and Jockey M.Narredu were interviewed by the Stewards regarding the poor performance of RAQUEL in this race. Tr.P.Shroff stated that Jockey M.Narredu knows this filly since he has ridden her earlier in Race No.52 and he was also riding her at work and he  had instructed the jockey to give the filly a chance and ride his own race. He said that the filly had worked well and he had expected her to win this race easily and he was very disappointed with her performance. He said that the filly did not gallop at any stage of the race as expected and he had no explanation to offer as to why she performed poorly since she had returned sound after the race. He felt that being a light frame filly and running regularly since the Pune Meeting, she may have been drained out. He said that he would request his Vet to do a rectal examination to ascertain whether she was in season. Jockey M.Narredu stated that he had ridden the filly in The Indian 1000 Guineas where she ran a good race and going by that run he expected to win this race easily, however, she jumped out well but was running scratchy from the start.  The explanation tendered by Trainer P.Shroff and Jockey M.Narredu was noted and the Sr.V.O. was requested to examine the filly for any abnormality.

RE: ENQUIRY INTO THE RUNNING AND RIDING OF “PREMIER QUEEN” IN RACE NO 266 RUN ON 23RD MARCH 2008 – TRAINER IMTIAZ A. SAIT & JOCKEY M. NARREDU:

The Stipendiary Stewards reported that they had questioned Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Jockey M.Narredu regarding the running and riding of PREMIER QUEEN in the above race.  Tr.Imtiaz Sait stated that Jockey Narredu had ridden this filly earlier in Race No.160 where he had finished second. He said that he had instructed the Jockey to settle the filly in 4th/5th position, start improving from the 4 furlongs and to do his best. Jockey M.Narredu confirmed the instructions. When asked for his observation of the race, Tr.Sait said that at the 800 metres the Jockey was getting into trouble since the filly was keen and therefore he took her out and made his move too soon and came along the rails and the filly got bogged down in the last part because she was carrying top weight of 61.5 kgs. and going along the rails was heavy because of watering and it was his bad luck that the filly lost the race.

Jockey M.Narredu said that he settled the filly in 4th/5th position as instructed but the pace was very slow and his filly clipped the horse in front of him twice and keeping in mind that he was riding a favourite who was  carrying top weight of 61.5 kgs. he did not want to take a chance to ease her up at the 800 metres and fall back, therefore, he pulled her out and she was traveling very well, he did not wish to disappoint her and coming into the straight when he let her go she spurted well and he thought that he would win the race easily but she slowed down in the final stages possibly because the going along the rails was heavy and the winner was moving faster on the outside. He said that PREMIER QUEEN being his first ride of the  day, he was unaware of the going along the rails or else he would have definitely kept the filly on the outside.  The matter was reported to the Stewards.

The Stewards interviewed Trainer Imtiaz A.Sait and Jockey M.Narredu and having heard them and viewing the video recording of the race, the explanation tendered by them was noted.
